Litan Sareikhong Village Body Seeks Action Over Arson Crisis

LITAN, Feb 12, 2026: The Litan Sareikhong Village Authority has issued an urgent appeal to the Government of India and the Government of Manipur, seeking immediate intervention over the continued burning of Kuki houses in Litan Sareikhong village.

In a press release dated February 12, 2026, the Village Authority expressed deep concern and anguish over what it described as repeated incidents of arson in the area over the past few days. According to the statement, a large number of Kuki homes have been reduced to ashes, leaving many families displaced and living in fear.

The Authority alleged that the incidents were carried out by Tangkhul groups backed by NSCN-IM elements. It further claimed that disturbing videos have surfaced showing not only armed individuals but also some civilians, including women, taking part in the burning of houses.

The statement also alleged that NSCN-IM cadres have taken control of certain parts of Litan Sareikhong village and have set up positions and bunkers, including in sensitive civilian areas such as Sunday School campuses. The Village Authority said such developments have created an atmosphere of intimidation and insecurity among innocent villagers.

Expressing disappointment over what it termed as inaction and a selective response by central and state security forces, the Authority stated that Kuki villagers were reportedly being prevented from entering or returning to the village, while those responsible for the burning of houses continued their actions unchecked. It said this has deepened mistrust and allowed the destruction to escalate.

The Village Authority has called for the immediate deployment of neutral and impartial security forces to restore law and order, prevent further violence, and ensure the safety and rights of all civilians. It also demanded an independent and transparent inquiry to establish the facts and hold those responsible accountable.

The Authority stated that the present crisis appears to have grown from an incident that was never expected to escalate to such a devastating level. It warned that continued inaction would only worsen tensions and prolong the suffering of innocent people.

The press release concluded with an appeal to the authorities to act swiftly and responsibly in the interest of peace, justice, and human dignity.

The bright colours of the tulips add charm and elegance to the surroundings. Under the clear February sky, the flowers appear lively and refreshing, drawing the attention of visitors and passersby. The carefully arranged flower beds reflect the beauty and discipline of Delhi’s well-maintained diplomatic area.

NSCN Condemns Litan Burning, Issues Warning

February 11, 2026: The Ministry of Information and Publicity (MIP), Government of the People's Republic of Nagalim (NSCN/GPRN), has issued a press statement regarding the recent Litan burning incident, alleging involvement of Kuki militants and Indian security forces.

In the statement titled "Scorched-earth tactics of Kuki militants and Indian Security Forces," the MIP claimed that narratives presented by Kuki frontal bodies on the Litan incident are misleading. It alleged that the incident began after an altercation in which a Tangkhul individual was reportedly assaulted, and that the situation was later used as a pretext to target Tangkhul houses.

The statement further accused Indian security forces of complicity, alleging that some personnel were seen alongside Kuki militants during the incident. It described the alleged actions as a "premeditated arson" against the Tangkhul Naga community and termed it a serious violation of human rights.

The NSCN/GPRN also criticized certain Kuki organizations for what it described as "playing the victim card" and refuted claims that Tangkhuls with NSCN support were responsible for the burning of Kuki houses. The statement mentioned the World Kuki-Zo Intellectual Council (WKZIC), accusing it of misrepresenting the situation in communication with the Prime Minister of India.

Describing the incident as a symbol of aggression against the Naga nation, the NSCN stated that it would stand firm in defense of what it termed the political rights and land of the Naga people.

Manipur Chief Minister visits Slain Woman’s Family Amid Unrest

Jiribam, Feb 11, 2026 – Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand visited the family of Zosangkim Hmar on Wednesday (Feb 11) to offer condolences following her brutal death in late 2024.

The visit took place in the Jiribam district, where the Chief Minister met with the relatives of the 31-year-old Kuki-Zo teacher. Zosangkim Hmar was killed on the night of 7 November 2024 during a wave of ethnic violence. She was allegedly gang-raped and murdered before her home in Zairawn village was set on fire, reportedly by Meitei militants.

The tragedy of Ms. Hmar’s death was followed by further bloodshed just days later. On 11 November 2024, 10 Hmar village volunteers were shot dead in Jakuradhor-Karong village, located in the Borobekra sub-division.

Reports allege that the volunteers were killed by CRPF personnel acting in coordination with Meitei militants. These back-to-back incidents have significantly heightened tensions between the communities and the security forces in the region.

During his visit to the grieving family, the Chief Minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to restoring order and holding those responsible to account.

“Guided by Hon’ble PM Shri Narendra Modi Ji and Hon’ble Home Minister Shri Amit Shah Ji’s vision for peace, I met the family of the deceased woman... expressing condolences and assuring justice,” Khemchand stated on X (formerly Twitter).

The victim’s family and local community leaders continue to call for a transparent investigation into both the assault on Ms. Hmar and the subsequent killing of the village volunteers. By visiting the site in person, the Minister aimed to signal that the administration is focused on legal redress, though the atmosphere in Jiribam remains fragile.
