BOYCOTT OF PHERZAWL DISTRICT ADMINISTRATION

The Zomi Chiefs' Association recalls its press statement dated 08.02.2026 demanding the immediate implementation of Government Gazette Order No. 337 dated 07 January 2022, by which Thanlon Sub-Division was re-amalgamated with Churachandpur District. A copy was forwarded to the Pherzawl District Administration. However, despite being formally notified, the Pherzawl District Administration refused to take corrective action and continues to list Thanlon Sub-Division, Thanlon Police Station, and 56–Thanlon (ST) Assembly Constituency under its jurisdiction on its official website, in blatant disregard of the Government Gazette notification.

The continued interference and administrative assertions by the Pherzawl District Administration over Thanlon Sub-Division, despite a clear and binding Government Gazette notification, are unacceptable. The Zomi Chiefs' Association will not remain silent while a valid Government Order is openly ignored.

In view of this continued disregard, the Zomi Chiefs' Association hereby declares a complete boycott of the Pherzawl District Administration. All village chiefs and the general public of Thanlon Sub-Division are advised not to participate in, cooperate with, or facilitate any program or activity organized by the Pherzawl District Administration. This boycott will remain in force until all concerned departments are formally transferred to the Churachandpur District Administration, or until it is withdrawn by the Zomi Chiefs' Association.

Further, in order to reaffirm the lawful and notified status of Thanlon Sub-Division, the Zomi Chiefs' Association declares 08 March 2026 as "Implementation Affirmation Day."

On this day:

1. All village chiefs shall convene public meetings in their respective villages and publicly read out Government Gazette Order No. 337 dated 07 January 2022.

2. The contents and implications of the said Order shall be clearly explained in local dialects so that the public fully understands the legal position.

The Association once again calls upon the concerned authorities to immediately implement the Gazette Order in both letter and spirit, including the transfer of all remaining departments and the correction of all official records, notifications, and representations.

If the continued non-implementation persists, the Zomi Chiefs' Association will deliberate on its next course of action and take all necessary steps in the larger public interest.

The Central Village Defence Force (CVDF) hereby informs the public that a Road March will be held on 6th March 2026 from the CVDF Office to Phungkhothang Guite Mawltual under the theme "Justice for All Martyrs and Expedite Political Solution."

The march is organised in remembrance of the sacrifices made during the ongoing violence since 3rd May 2023 and in solemn acknowledgement of the sacrifice of Late Pu Vungzagin Valte, Hon'ble sitting BJP MLA of 56–Thanlon Constituency. Upon reaching the destination, a brief homage ceremony will be held in honour of our martyrs.

The CVDF appeals to the public to participate in large numbers and to demonstrate unity and solidarity in a peaceful and disciplined manner. All youths within the CVDF operational areas, whether formally trained or not, along with men and women from all sections of society, are urged to turn up and take part in the march.

To facilitate the smooth conduct of the programme and minimise inconvenience to the public, the CVDF requests all shops, businesses, and commercial establishments within the operational areas to close and wrap up their activities by 5:00 PM on the said day. The public is also requested to extend cooperation with regard to the movement of vehicles along the route of the march so that the programme may proceed in an orderly and coordinated manner.

All CVDF volunteers are requested to fall in at the CVDF Office at 4:30 PM sharp for coordination and formation prior to the commencement of the march. The CVDF further requested the general public to attend the homage ceremony at 6:00 PM.

The CVDF appreciates the continued cooperation of the public and urges everyone to maintain discipline, unity, and mutual respect throughout the event.

The attention of the Zomi Council (ZC) has been drawn to a press release of date purportedly issued by a certain hitherto unknown and unheard-of organisation condemning the visit of honorable Deputy Chief Minister of Manipur, Pu Losii Dikho to Lamka.

The ZC takes full responsibility for inviting the VVIP as the Chief Guest for the Zomi Nam Ni Football Tournament (final) held on February 14, 2026. He is a sports enthusiast and an efficient organiser. He was also invited as the Chief Guest of the 78th Zomi Nam Ni State-Level celebration at Lamka. Zomi Nam Ni is a holiday observed by the government of Manipur. It is befitting the occasion to invite a senior leader from neighbouring Naga community who also holds the high office of Dy.CM of the State.

In any case, the term Kuki-Zo has never been recognised or accepted by the Zomi Council in any form.

Observance of the 109th Thadou Gaal War Declaration Day – 17th March, 1917

Subject: Observance of the 109th Thadou Gaal War Declaration Day – 17th March, 1917

The month of March is of profound historical importance for the Thadou community. On 17th March, 1917, at the historic Jampi Summit (locally called Sajam Lhah - Traditional Thadou war ritual performed before formally declaring or undertaking war). It was a solemn customary ceremony through which chiefs and warriors invoked spiritual sanction, unity, and collective commitment before entering into armed conflict. Thadou Chiefs under the leadership of Pu Khotinthang Sitlhou aka Kilkhong, Chief of Jampi Village (present Tamenglong district, Manipur) formally declared war against British imperial authority, marking the beginning of the Thadou Gaal (1917–1919), a war fought for the independence and freedom of Manipur during that time. The Jampi Summit was a traditional council of Thadou chiefs where leading figures including Pu Khotinthang Sitlhou (Jampi), Sutmang Singson @ Pasut (Kanjang), and other Thadou chiefs participated; it was a customary political assembly rather than a colonial conference. The war was largely confined to the Thadou chiefs and their areas.

The Thadou Gaal arose from strong opposition to forced labour recruitment during World War I, colonial interference in traditional chieftainship, heavy taxation and gun confiscation, and in defense of traditional autonomy, and freedom from colonial interference.

_We take pride in the growing national recognition of Pu Khotinthang Sitlhou's leadership:_

_1. On 4th January, 2022, during an address in Imphal, Manipur as part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, Hon'ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted Pu Khotinthang Sitlhou among Manipur's notable heroes._

_2. On 6th January, 2023, in Moirang, Manipur, Hon'ble Union Home Minister Amit Shah paid tribute to Pu Khotinthang while emphasizing Manipur's proud legacy of resistance against colonial oppression._

In light of this, all Thadou organisations under Thadou Inpi Manipur and relevant schools, colleges, church and institutions are directed to observe 17th March as Thadou Gaal War Declaration Day. Activities should include awareness campaigns, educational discussions, seminars, and community events to revisit and share the inspiring history of our ancestors' bravery and sacrifices.

Let this observance inspire us to relearn the bravery and unity of our forefathers and to work collectively for the unity, integrity, and progress of Manipur and India.

Zomi Council Rejects Criticism Over Dy CM Visit to Lamka

Lamka, March 4, 2026: The Zomi Council has strongly rejected what it described as "baseless criticism" regarding the recent visit of Manipur Deputy Chief Minister Pu L. Dikho to Lamka.

In a press statement issued on March 3, 2026, the Council clarified that it had taken full responsibility for inviting the Deputy Chief Minister as the Chief Guest for the Zomi Nam Ni Football Tournament final held on February 14, 2026. The Council stated that the invitation was extended officially and with due respect.

According to the statement, Pu L. Dikho was also invited as the Chief Guest for the 78th Zomi Nam Ni State-Level celebration in Lamka. 

The Council noted that Zomi Nam Ni is a government-recognised holiday in Manipur, and inviting a senior leader from a neighbouring Naga community who holds the high office of Deputy Chief Minister was appropriate for the occasion.

The Council further responded to a purported press release issued by an "unknown and unheard-of organisation" that had condemned the Deputy Chief Minister's visit.

The Zomi Council dismissed the criticism and reiterated its stand, asserting that the visit was conducted in good faith and in the spirit of goodwill and unity.

In its statement, the Council also made it clear that the term "Kuki-Zo" has never been recognised or accepted by the Zomi Council in any form.

"We, the Zomis, are delighted to welcome a VVIP friend in our own ancestral land and nativity," the statement concluded.

Kuki Inpi Manipur Warns Against Unauthorised Organisations Claiming to Represent Kukis

Lamka, March 3, 2026: The Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM), the apex body of the Kuki tribes, has cautioned civil society groups and individuals against issuing statements or representing the Kuki community without proper authorisation.

In a press release issued from the KIM Secretariat on March 3, 2026, the organisation reaffirmed Resolution No. 14 adopted during its 31st General Assembly. The resolution strongly condemned the unmandated formation and functioning of certain civil society organisations and forums, including the Kuki Human Rights Council, the World Kuki-Zo Intellectual Council, and the Joint Forum of 7, among others.

KIM stated that such bodies were formed without consultation or approval from the general Kuki populace and often misrepresent the collective voice, vision, and aspirations of the Kuki people.

The apex body further advised media houses, government agencies, non-governmental organisations, and individuals to refer only to organisations and institutions duly mandated by Kuki Inpi Manipur in both official and non-official matters.

Mark Haokip Granted Bail After Years in Jail

Lamka, March 03, 2026: After spending several years behind bars, Kuki human rights activist Mark Thangmang Haokip has finally been granted bail by the Special Court (NIA), Imphal West, Manipur.

According to a formal release order dated February 27, 2026, issued by the Court of the Special Judge (NIA), Imphal West, Haokip, 37, a resident of Molnom village in Churachandpur district, was ordered to be released on bail in connection with FIR No. 129(05)2022 of Imphal Police Station. He had been booked under multiple sections of the IPC and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).

The court directed the Superintendent of Central Jail, Sajiwa, to release him upon furnishing two sureties of ₹3,00,000 each and a personal bond of ₹3,00,000. The order further stated that he must appear before the court via video conferencing on March 10, 2026.

Haokip, known among many in the Kuki community as a human rights activist who sought justice for the Kukis much before the ethnic unrest in Manipur broke out, had been lodged in jail for years. Supporters allege that despite his prolonged incarceration, no prominent political or community leaders actively pursued his release.

The handing-over certificate was duly prepared and handed over to his wife and family on 03 March 2026 at 1:50 AM.

His bail has sparked mixed reactions. While many have welcomed the development as a step toward justice, questions are being raised about the high bail amount. Legal observers note that cases involving charges under the UAPA and serious IPC sections often attract stringent bail conditions. Courts typically impose higher surety amounts in such cases considering the gravity of allegations and statutory restrictions governing bail under special laws.

As Haokip prepares to walk out of prison, his case is likely to continue drawing attention in the coming days, particularly regarding legal standards, bail conditions, and the broader debate on the treatment of rights activists in conflict-affected regions.

ZCC Meets Deputy CM in Lamka Over Valte Case

Lamka, March 2, 2026: The Zomi Co-ordination Committee (ZCC) held a closed-door meeting with Manipur's Deputy Chief Minister Shri Losii Dikho during his visit to Lamka on Monday, where key issues related to the death of Late Pu Vungzagin Valte and the prevailing situation in the region were discussed.

According to a media handout issued by the Information & Publicity Wing of ZCC, the Deputy Chief Minister visited Lamka on March 2 and met the family members of Late Pu Vungzagin Valte at his residence to convey condolences. The visit took place during the ongoing observance of Zomi National Mourning declared in honour of the late BJP sitting MLA.

Following the condolence visit, a meeting was held between the Deputy Chief Minister and representatives of ZCC. During the discussion, the government expressed sorrow over the death of Pu Vungzagin Valte and reiterated its commitment to ensuring that those responsible for the May 4, 2023 assault are investigated, prosecuted, and brought to justice.

The need to expedite investigations into cases of deaths arising from violent assaults was also highlighted. Both sides further discussed the future course of action toward restoring peace and advancing a political solution under the Suspension of Operations (SoO) framework in a manner acceptable to all communities.

The government informed the ZCC that major policy decisions may take time, as a full Cabinet has yet to be constituted.

In the outcome of the meeting, the Deputy Chief Minister acknowledged the concerns raised and assured that the matters would be placed at the appropriate level of the government for further action. He reaffirmed the government's commitment to pursuing justice in the case of Late Pu Vungzagin Valte and stated that written communication outlining subsequent steps is expected.

The ZCC stated that further decisions regarding ongoing protest measures would be guided by the government's written communication and visible progress on the issues discussed.
