FIFA World Cup 2026 | QF: Argentina 3 - 1 Switzerland

ARGENTINA booked their place in the FIFA World Cup 2026 semi-finals with a hard-earned 3–1 victory over SWITZERLAND after extra time at Kansas City Stadium on 12 July 2026. The defending champions made a lively start and went ahead in the 10th minute through Alexis Mac Allister. Switzerland, however, refused to give in and drew level in the 67th minute when Dan Ndoye finished well to make it 1–1. Just five minutes later, Switzerland's hopes suffered a major setback as Breel Embolo was shown a straight red card in the 72nd minute, forcing the Swiss to play the remainder of the match with ten men. Despite their numerical advantage, Argentina could not find a winner in normal time.

Extra time proved decisive as Argentina's quality finally told. Julián Álvarez restored the lead in the 112th minute with a composed finish before Lautaro Martínez sealed the victory with a goal in the 120+1st minute. Argentina controlled the closing stages and made their extra man count to secure another semi-final appearance. The Albiceleste also edged the attacking statistics, recording seven shots on target compared with Switzerland's five. Argentina received three yellow cards, while Switzerland had one yellow card in addition to Embolo's red card.

Argentina march into the semi-finals full of confidence, while Switzerland exit the tournament with pride after producing another determined performance against the reigning world champions.
