Sagolmang Area Naga Students' Association (SANSA): Condemnation

Sagolmang Area Naga Students' Association (SANSA) condemns armed attack by suspected Kuki militants on a passenger bus along the Sinaikeithei–Imphal route at Molnom on Monday morning.

CONDEMNATION
8th September, 2025

The Sagolmang Area Naga Students' Association (SANSA) vehemently condemns the appalling incident that took place today (08th September 2025) around 7:30 AM -8:00 AM at Molnom, along the Sinakeithei-Imphal route. Armed Kuki militants reportedly intercepted a passenger bus, forcibly seized passengers' mobile phones, and searched them to verify whether any video recordings of their militant camp or area had been taken. They further resorted to blank firing, creating panic and grave insecurity among innocent civilians.

Such barbaric, cowardly, and unlawful acts against defenseless passengers are utterly intolerable and deserve the strongest condemnation. The lives, rights, and safety of the people must never be subjected to such intimidation and violence.

SANSA demands that the concerned authorities immediately initiate stringent measures and bring the perpetrators to justice. It is the bounden duty of the authorities to ensure the safety of all commuters and to uphold the rule of law without compromise.

We also make it clear that if such heinous incidents are allowed to persist unchecked, SANSA will not remain a silent spectator but will be compelled to pursue stronger courses of action in defense of the security and dignity of our people.

FOOTHILLS NAGA CO-ORDINATION COMMITTEE (FNCC): PRESS STATEMENT

The September 9, 2025

The Foothills Naga Co-ordination Committee (FNCC) strongly condemns the outrageous act committed by armed Kuki militants on the morning of September 8, 2025, wherein a passenger bus traveling from Sinakeithei village was forcibly stopped and frisked at Molnom village. This bus, carrying innocent passengers from Sinakeithei, a Tangkhul Naga village under Ukhrul Central Subdivision, was subjected to unlawful checking, harassment, and intimidation.

Such audacious behavior by Kuki militants is an unprovoked aggression and an intolerable insult to the dignity and security of the Naga people. The Kukis refugees have absolutely no right, moral or legal, to encroach upon the privacy, security, and freedom of movement of Naga passengers in our ancestral land.

FNCC categorically warns that unless the responsible Kuki militants immediately tender a public apology or issue a clear explanation for this brazen misconduct, the FNCC shall be compelled to take decisive counter-measures. Let it be made absolutely clear: every Kuki individual passing through Foothill Naga areas will be held accountable and met with strict counter-action.

The FNCC reaffirms that the Naga people will not tolerate any infringement upon their ancestral land, freedom, or dignity. The continuing provocations by Kuki militants will only invite unavoidable consequences. The onus now lies with the Kuki leadership and their armed groups to restrain their cadres and respect peaceful co-existence.

PM Modi’s Delayed Visit to Manipur: Silence, Suffering & Separate Admin Demand

PRIME MINISTER Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit Manipur on September 13, soon after inaugurating Mizoram’s first train service. For many, this visit carries symbolic weight, but for the people of Manipur-- particularly the Kuki, Zomi, and Hmar communities -- it brings more questions than answers. After more than two years of devastating violence, displacement, and communal suffering, the Prime Minister’s prolonged silence has been louder than any words. His absence during the darkest chapters of Manipur’s history has left a deep wound, and this sudden visit, after years of neglect, appears less like a gesture of solidarity and more like political theatre. Before his arrival, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has hurriedly renewed the Suspension of Operations (SoO) pact with the armed groups KNO and UPF, while also striking a deal with the Kuki-Zo Council. This orchestrated timing gives the impression that Delhi is more interested in optics than genuine reconciliation or justice.

The government’s narrative is already being questioned. The PIB Delhi recently claimed that National Highway-2 has been “opened,” creating confusion among the local population. In truth, the Kuki-Zo communities never blocked the highway permanently; it has remained accessible for the movement of essential goods, though under distress. Such misleading claims paint the wrong image of the Kuki, Zomi, and Hmar people, portraying them as obstructive when they themselves are victims of displacement and violence. Meanwhile, the cultural dance and show locations -- already viral on social media -- have been announced as part of the PM’s visit. This has sparked outrage among victims who still mourn their loved ones. Many ask: how can the government expect them to dance when justice has not yet been served? This attempt to showcase “unity in diversity” through cultural programs is seen by many as a whitewashing of the tears and struggles of the Zokumar (Zomi, Kuki, Hmar) people.

The wounds remain fresh. Thousands of families continue to live in relief camps, their homes destroyed, their lands unsafe. No accountability has been delivered for the atrocities committed, nor has the Union Government addressed the humanitarian crisis adequately. Instead, by pushing for grand celebrations and cultural displays during the Prime Minister’s visit, the Government of India risks trivializing the pain of these marginalized groups. The silence of the past two years cannot simply be erased with one orchestrated visit. For many, this delayed gesture feels insulting rather than healing. It is as if the Centre is more concerned with the optics of stability and control rather than delivering genuine justice. If Modi is influenced by dominant Meitei interests -- particularly their controversial demand for Scheduled Tribe status -- his visit may inflame tensions further rather than calm them.

Equally alarming is the continuing denial of constitutional rights to the Zokumar communities. Autonomous District Council (ADC) elections, which should have been held much before the last state assembly elections, remain stalled. This deliberate neglect has left tribal governance in a state of suspension, effectively silencing the political voice of the Kuki, Zomi, and Hmar people. The lack of local governance mechanisms has deepened alienation and mistrust towards the state and central governments. When the Centre ignores such constitutional provisions and instead stages cultural showcases during the Prime Minister’s visit, it only underscores how diluted the plight of the Zokumar victims has become in the eyes of Delhi. This isn’t just about neglect -- it is about systematically undermining the democratic and constitutional rights of entire communities.

The only way forward is a bold political solution: a separate administration for the Zokumar people. This demand is not born out of sudden opportunism but out of decades of neglect, systemic discrimination, and the recent violent breakdown of coexistence. A separate administrative arrangement would provide the Kuki, Zomi, and Hmar communities with a sense of security, dignity, and self-determination that has long been denied. Anything less risks prolonging the cycle of violence and mistrust. If the Prime Minister’s visit is to carry any real meaning, it must move beyond photo opportunities and misleading announcements. It must acknowledge the pain of the Zokumar victims, address their constitutional rights, and commit to a political solution that ensures lasting peace. Only then can Manipur move towards genuine reconciliation and healing --- otherwise, this visit will remain another chapter of empty promises in a long history of betrayal.

From Banker to Lawyer: Paethapratim Goswami

Parthapratim Goswami, a 58-year-old former banker, recently started a law degree at a Meghalaya university. When he walked into class, students stood up, thinking he was a professor. "Don't worry, I'm a student too," he said with a smile.

With a life expectancy of 70 and retirement at 60, many face 10-15 years of idle time.

Goswami's decision to pursue law at almost 60 stands out. While his peers planned retirement, he packed his bags for law school. "Life doesn't end at 60," he says. "Pension is for enjoying life." His journey began in the '90s with love and desperation. He met his wife, Abha, and cleared banking exams to marry her. He had a 35-year banking career, working across India.

Tragedy struck in 2023 when Goswami lost his wife. Despite personal struggles, he stayed observant professionally. His interest in law grew from noticing gaps in banking and corporate law expertise. "Many advocates lack clarity on banking laws," he notes. India's legal sector is a multi-thousand-crore industry, but professionals with law and banking expertise are scarce.

Goswami believes his banking experience can make him stand out in law. With an LLB, he hopes to practice and stay engaged for 15 years. His classmates are young, around 21-22 years old. Even his children, a tech entrepreneur son and a Chevening Scholar daughter, were surprised by his decision to study law.

KNO & UPF PRESS STATEMENT

Office of the
KUKI NATIONAL ORGANISATION
AND
UNITED PEOPLES FRONT

PRESS STATEMENT
7th September 2025

The recently concluded MHA and SoO extension agreement for one year, effective from the date signed 4 September 2025, at New Delhi clearly states, 'Suspension of Operations (SoO) Agreement shall be followed by tripartite dialogue with KNO and UPF to pave the way for a negotiated political settlement under the Constitution Of India in a time bound manner.'

The Public Information Bureau (PIB), which is responsible for MHA's publications has put a spin of the signed official agreement as follows: 'Among other provisions, the revised ground rules reiterated: Need for a negotiated solution to bring peace and stability to the state of Manipur.' This twist by PIB does not figure anywhere in the SoO agreement signed between MHA and SoO group.

Unfortunately, PIB's irregularity has caused immense confusion among the Kuki Zo people, who have been waiting for the SoO agreement, delayed since 29 February 2024 because the Arambai Tenggol, a Meitei militant organisation issued a diktat to the Meitei government of Manipur to unilaterally abrogate the agreement. PIB's aberration has seriously upset the Kuki Zo sentiments to a point of affecting the mood over the much-awaited Prime Minister's visit to Lamka (Ccpur District) on 13 September 2025.

For the benefit of the general public, prior to the state government sponsored ethnic cleansing of Kuki Zo, which started on 3 May 2023 in Imphal and quickly spread to the foothills bordering the valley districts separating the Kuki Zo inhabited hill districts, the SoO group demand was local autonomy by way Of Territorial Council within the state of Manipur. The ethnic cleansing led to departure from demand for TC to demand for Union Territory with Legislature, which was submitted at the SoO meeting on 1 September 2023 at New Delhi.

Following the renewed SoO agreement, future talks between the SoO group and Government's representatives will focus on the demand for UT with Legislature.
