KIM Clarifies CM Meeting Had Executive Approval

LAMKA, June 22, 2026: The Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM) has issued a rejoinder and statement of facts clarifying that the June 17 meeting between Manipur Chief Minister Pu N. Biren Singh's successor-led government representative (as stated in the document, Chief Minister Pu Yumnam Khemchand) and a Kuki delegation was held with the full knowledge and consent of the KIM Executive.

According to the statement issued on 20 June 2026 by the Kuki Inpi Media Cell, the clarification comes in response to concerns raised following an earlier communication by KIM General Secretary Pu Paotinthang Lupheng on June 18, 2026. KIM stated that the meeting was authorized by KIM President Pu Ch. Ajang after requests from KNF President Pu ST Thangboi Kipgen and Deputy Chief Minister Pi Nemcha Kipgen.

The organization further stated that KIM was officially represented at the meeting by Vice-President (External) Pu Yanglet Haokip, alongside representatives from Kuki Inpi Sadar Hills (KISH) and the Kuki Students' Organisation (KSO-GHQ).

KIM said the meeting was necessitated by the immense hardships and challenges being faced by the Kuki people, particularly in Kangpokpi district, and was undertaken in the larger interest of the community.

Rejecting claims that the meeting was unauthorized, KIM described such suggestions as “incorrect and misleading.” The apex body urged the Kuki public not to be confused by unverified narratives and reiterated that the clarification was issued in the interest of truth, transparency, and placing the correct facts on record.

CoTU Imposes Emergency Bandh Over Security Operations

Kangpokpi, June 22, 2026: The Committee on Tribal Unity (CoTU) has announced an emergency indefinite bandh along National Highway-2 (NH-2) and National Highway-37 (NH-37), citing concerns over what it described as partial and selective security operations in the Leimakhong–Kangchup area amid ongoing tensions involving Kuki and Kachha Naga communities.

In a press release issued on 21 June 2026, CoTU expressed strong concern over reports of security actions that, according to the organization, have created a perception of bias among affected communities. The committee stated that the primary responsibility of security forces and the government is to safeguard all citizens without discrimination and ensure impartial enforcement of law and order.

The organization also referred to the recent killings of three Christian pastors and twelve Kuki villagers, as well as reported attacks on villages, destruction of homes, and displacement of civilians. CoTU called for a transparent and time-bound investigation into the incidents and urged authorities to bring all perpetrators to justice.

Among its demands, CoTU called for impartial security operations, protection of vulnerable villages, independent investigations into the killings, immediate measures to prevent further violence, and accountability for any lapses in security duties.

The bandh took effect from 4:00 PM on June 21 and will continue until further notice. Medical emergencies, ambulance services, and humanitarian relief activities have been exempted. CoTU appealed to the public to maintain peace and discipline during the protest.

KISWSH Condemns Force Used Against Protesters

Kuki Inpi South-West Sadar Hills (KI-SWSH) has condemned the use of force by security personnel during the dispersal of protesters, alleging that peaceful demonstrators were subjected to tear gas, blank ammunition, and lathi charges.

In a statement issued on 22 June 2026, the apex body stated that the public shutdown was organized to protest what it described as discriminatory and targeted combing operations against Kuki communities. The organization alleged that the concerns and grievances of the people were not being adequately addressed.

According to the statement, three individuals sustained critical injuries during the security action. KI-SWSH termed the use of force unjustifiable and expressed concern over the impact on civilians participating in the protest.

The organization further claimed that the ongoing communal tensions were instigated by NSCN-IM and its alleged proxy, the ZUF-Kamson faction. It urged the government to take decisive legal action against those responsible and ensure accountability.

KI-SWSH warned that public agitation would continue unless authorities address the issues raised and take steps to restore confidence among affected communities. The statement was issued by the Department of Information and Publicity, Kuki Inpi South-West Sadar Hills.
