Appeal for Kuki-Naga Unity via Connectivity Road Access

Ref.No.193/WKZIC-GHQ/(PR)/2023-25, 15th July, 2025.
                                                                                      APPEAL

To,

1. Chief & Villagers of Khoirok/Dolang Khunou Chiru Village,

2. Kilo Kilonser, Ministry  of Kilo Affairs, Government of Nagalim, GPRN, NSCN-IM, Camp Hebron,

3. Eastern Liangmai Naga Chief/Chairman Association (ELNCCA),

4. Rongmei Naga Council Manipur (RNCM),

5. Manipur Naga Youth Organisation (MNYO),.

Subject: Appeal to “Give Free Rein” to pass Kangpokpi-Churachandpur Connectivity Road through Khoirou/Dolang Khunou  Chiru Village on ‘Humanitarian Ground’ as fellow Tribals and Christians.

Respected Sirs,

As the Holy Bible says in Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 (NIV), “There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens ... a time to tear down and a time to build, .......... a time to keep and a time to throw away”, the WKZIC, though sometimes rebutted or issued a rejoinder to defend ourselves, as we have read in the same holy book at Mathew 7:7-8, “Ask and it will be given to you, seek and you will find, knock and the door  will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened,” today, on behalf of the Kuki-Zo community, have the honour to appeal to you to give free rein to the ‘Kangpokpi-Churachandpur Connectivity Road’ construction that pass a route of about 3-4 kilometres through Khoirok/Dolang Khunou, a Chiru Village, who are by blood Kuki-Chin/ Kuki-Zo and Politically Naga.

We also came across in various Social Media and Printed Electronic Media the Press Notes and Communiques of various Manipuri Naga Organisations such as the Eastern Liangmai Naga Chief/Chairman Association (ELNCCA), Press Communique, Vide. Ref.Nill, dated, the 1st July, 2025, Rongmei Naga Council Manipur (RNCM), Memo addressed to Kilo Kilonser, Ministry  of Kilo Affairs, Government of Nagalim, GPRN, NSCN-IM, Camp Hebron, Vide. Ref. No. MR/04/RNCM/25,  and the Manipur Naga Youth Organisation (MNYO), Press Statement, Vide. Ref. No. Nill, dated, the 14th July, 2025, expressing your resentments over the stated connectivity, the Lifelines of the Kuki-Zo people, where Churachandpur-via-IMPHAL-Kangpokpi road became the ‘Death of Valley’ for the Kuki-Chin/ Kuki-Zo people from the day of ‘TRIBAL SOLIDARITY MARCH’ held on the 3rd May 2023 jointly organised by the ALL NAGA STUDENTS ASSOCIATION MANIPUR (ANSAM) and the KUKI STUDENTS’ ORGANISATION (KSO)-GHQ, in protest against Meitei ST demand.

Let our brethren CHIRUS ‘culturally and by blood Kuki and Politically Naga’ (Prof. Gangmumei Kamei/ Kabui) be the Medium/ Agent of “Kuki-Naga Unity and Fraternity,” as fellow Tribals and fellow Christians, forgetting the Past grudges and join hands together again as on the 3rd May 2023 against majority marginalization socially, economically and politically. Let this be the foundation of ‘Kuki-Naga Reconciliation.’ This mutual co-operations and understanding shall definitely please brethren Chirus too, who cannot completely disown both on blood line and socio-politics.

With regards

Sd/-(SAMUEL T. ZOU)
General Secretary.

Sd/-(DR. TS HAOKIP)                                  President.

FNCC Declares Indefinite Road Blockade from July 18

IMPHAL, July 15, 2025 — The Foothills Naga Co-ordination Committee (FNCC) has formally announced an indefinite road blockade and general strike in the Foothill region of Naga-inhabited areas, effective from midnight of July 18, 2025. This decision, according to an official press release issued on July 15, comes in protest against what the FNCC terms the "continued presence of illegal immigrants and Kuki refugees" in Naga ancestral lands.

In the press note signed by B. Robin Kabui, Secretary of the FNCC, the committee outlined three primary grievances that have prompted the protest:

1. Renaming of Roads in Naga Ancestral Territories: The FNCC alleges that Kuki refugees have unilaterally renamed IVR roads with names such as "German road" or "Tiger road," which they claim is historically and culturally unfounded. The committee views this as a provocative act and a threat to the cultural integrity of the Naga people.

2. Territorial Encroachment: The FNCC accuses Kuki refugees of systematic encroachment upon traditional Naga lands, describing it as a direct threat to their territorial integrity and heritage.

3. Demand for Dismantling of SoO Camps: The committee has called on the authorities to dismantle all Suspension of Operations (SoO) camps belonging to Kuki militant groups located near Naga-inhabited areas. It asserts that these camps not only endanger peace and stability but also generate fear and insecurity among Naga communities.

The FNCC has appealed to all Naga citizens to stand in solidarity and support the protest, describing it as a “peaceful yet resolute” action aimed at safeguarding Naga rights, land, and their collective future.

Zomi-American Catholics Reconnect at St. Louis Congress

IT WAS a sweet reunion for Rita Niang as she happily posed for photos with two of her childhood friends from Myanmar (formerly Burma) when they recently met up in St. Louis for the national Zomi-American Catholic Eucharistic Congress.

The three are mothers now, all of whom came to the United States as refugees. Niang settled in the Chicago suburb of Winfield, Illinois, while Helen Mang lives in Lincoln, Nebraska, and Mary Khan is in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

They were among nearly 1,000 Zomi Catholics from across the United States who gathered July 4-6 at St. Louis University High School for the fifth congress. The three keep in touch by phone regularly, but the gathering was a chance for them to reunite in person.

Niang said she also hoped her children would learn more about their Catholic faith within the context of the culture and language of the Zomi people, an ethnic group with roots primarily in Myanmar and in parts of India and Bangladesh.

“They go to Catholic schools, but we want to participate in our Zomi community,” Niang said. “I want them to have more understanding (of the culture) and participate and learn more about the Catholic faith, especially the Eucharist.”

Kukis Are Our Brothers: NSCN (K) Rejects Anti-Naga Claim

IN a significant clarification, the People’s Army of Nagaland (Naga Army), under the NSCN (K), has expressed concern over recent reports alleging that the Kuki community has united to combat a common enemy—namely, the Nagas. The NSCN (K) has termed the statement made by the Head of KNF (MC) as unfortunate and misleading.

A press release issued by Isak Sumi, Military Spokesman of NSCN (K), clarified that historically, the Nagas as a whole have never been enemies of the Kukis. The release pointed out that any conflict arose from isolated incidents involving certain Naga tribes from Manipur, who, acting on their own motives, created misunderstandings with the Kukis. On the contrary, the Nagas of Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, and Burma have long considered the Kukis as brothers, sharing both political and revolutionary platforms, as evidenced by the collaboration between NSCN (K) and the International Border Revolutionary Front (IBRF).

The statement further distanced the wider Naga community and NSCN (K) from the actions of the Tangkhuls and the NSCN (IM), asserting that the pain and conflict inflicted by these groups should not be attributed to all Nagas. It reaffirmed that the NSCN (K) bears no involvement in such acts and maintains a spirit of brotherhood with the Kukis.

In a gesture of revolutionary solidarity, the NSCN (K) extended greetings to the Kuki revolutionary groups, commending their recent unification under a common cause. The organization described this unity as a historic milestone and expressed hope that this path-breaking move would inspire other communities across the region to pursue similar unity and cooperation.

See the detailed report:

The Morung Express
📍 NAGALAND 🗓️ 10th May 2007

Dimapur, May 9 (MExN): The ‘People’s Army of Nagaland (Naga Army), NSCN (K) today termed as unfortunate the reported public declaration of the Head of KNF (MC) that the Kukis have united to fight against a common enemy i.e the Nagas.

A press release issued by the Military Spokesman of NSCN (K), Isak Sumi, in this regard stated that “it is pertinent to point out that the Nagas as a whole has at no point of time in the history were enemy of Kukis except some Naga tribe from Manipur at their own violation and with selfish motive, created misunderstanding with Kuki brothers, where as the Nagas of Nagaland, Arunachal, Assam, and Burma consider the Kukis as own brothers and for which they share a common political platform with Kukis as in the case of NSCN (K) of IBRF”.

The release stated that the NSCN (K) shares the agony instigated and perpetrated by Tangkhuls and the NSCN (IM), where as the Nagas in general and NSCN (K) in particular has no such involvement of any form, and therefore pointed out that the acts of Tangkhuls and NSCN (IM) should not be attributed to Nagas.

The release also extended revolutionary greetings to the Kuki revolutionary groups and termed their comming together under one banner, after remaining divided so far, as a historic step and at the same time expressed solidarity with them and hoped that such path-breaking course would set an example for other people of the region to follow suit. ***

MNYO Opposes Tiger/German Road, Seeks SoO Camp Relocation

According to a press release by the Manipur Naga Youth Organisation (MNYO) issued on 14 July 2025, the organisation has strongly opposed the proposed construction of the Tiger/German Road from Motbung in Kangpokpi district to Churachandpur, calling the road’s name objectionable as it allegedly refers to Kuki terrorists or armed militants.

The MNYO urged the Government of India and other concerned authorities to reconsider the road project and its name, warning that it could deepen existing land disputes and communal tensions between the Naga and Kuki communities, particularly in the sensitive regions around Mount Koubru and the Loktak Project area.

The statement expressed concern over the fear among Naga residents due to the presence of armed Kuki militants and alleged that district authorities in Kuki-dominated areas often side with Kuki interests in land conflicts, marginalising the rights of the Naga people.

While supporting road development in principle, MNYO stated that unverified construction in disputed zones could become a “Pandora’s Box,” aggravating tensions.

The organisation also opposed the shifting of Kuki Suspension of Operation (SoO) camps into mixed or Naga-dominated areas, arguing that it threatens peace and stability. It urged the relocation of these camps strictly within Kuki regions and the removal of any SoO camps already in or near Naga zones.

MNYO called on the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Government of India to re-evaluate the location and number of SoO camps to safeguard peaceful coexistence among all communities in Manipur.

ZNU-ZO ARMY Clarifies Mission for Zo Unity

The ZNU-ZO ARMY wishes to clarify its unwavering mission: to unify the Zo people under one true identity — the Zo Nation — and not to divide them. We categorically state that we have never collaborated with the ZRA or any other groups. Our sole adversary remains the Junta.

Our purpose is to foster unity among all descendants of the Zo people, building a common future grounded in our shared heritage and identity. In this spirit, we respectfully urge individuals who have made public statements or social media posts that may be misconstrued as divisive or misleading to retract or revise them in the interest of communal harmony.

Let us focus on building bridges, not walls, and work together towards a unified and stronger future for the Zo people.

Drone Strike Hits Insurgent Camps on Indo-Myanmar Border

IN a dramatic escalation along the India-Myanmar border, Indian Special Forces reportedly carried out a high-intensity drone strike on the night of 12 July 2025, targeting multiple camps of the banned insurgent group ULFA (Independent) and its allies.

According to sources and a press release issued by the Revolutionary People's Front (RPF) dated 14 July 2025, over 150 bombs were dropped using advanced drones on four ULFA(I) camps and a joint base shared with the People’s Liberation Army (PLA).

The strike, which began around midnight and continued into the early hours of 13 July, is reported to have killed Lt. General Nayan Asom, Chairman of the Lower Council of ULFA(I), while injuring several other cadres. The RPF expressed condolences in its statement, calling Asom a “hero” who laid down his life for the cause.

The RPF condemned the operation as a form of "proxy war" and an act of aggression against what it described as the “independent” territories of Assam and Manipur. The group rejected Indian sovereignty in the region and accused the Indian government of historical manipulation and deception, labelling it the “Archenemy.”

As of now, the Indian government has not issued an official statement regarding the strike. However, defence analysts suggest the action could be part of a wider counter-insurgency strategy to dismantle rebel strongholds along the porous Indo-Myanmar border.

Northeastern India has seen rising tensions in recent months, marked by insurgent activity and renewed separatist sentiment. The Indian Army has consistently maintained that outfits such as ULFA(I) and PLA operate from sanctuaries across the Myanmar border and pose a serious security challenge.

With the situation on edge, security forces across several Northeastern states remain on high alert. Further updates are expected as ground-level assessments and official responses continue to emerge.
