1. My village, Khomunnom, has been covered by Thadou Mauzadar (established in 1886) under the NC Hills Autonomous Council, Dima Hasao District, Assam. From time immemorial, my ancestors have been born Thadou and have died Thadou. The Thadou are a distinct and indigenous ethnic group and have never been, nor will ever be, subsumed under the so-called “Kuki,” notwithstanding certain erroneous references by colonial writers and researchers. I also take pride in the fact that the Thadou are the largest tribe in Manipur and the second-largest community after the Meitei. The indigenous presence of the Thadou in Manipur is of paramount importance, and I fully support and wish for the peaceful coexistence of various communities in the state of Manipur without affecting its territorial integrity.
2. In the present Manipur crisis, I am saddened that the Thadou people have been wrongly misidentified as “Kuki,” leading to victimisation and silencing under both Kuki supremacist pressures and Meitei community angers. Despite the loss of lives and properties among my own kin and across all communities, I resolve to work towards genuine community understanding between the Thadou and Meitei peoples and others and I extend my deepest condolences and sympathy to all victims without distinction.
3. Following two years of consistent effort, the leadership of Thadou Inpi Manipur successfully convened the Road to Peace - covenant of understanding meeting. Upon learning of this historic development, I voluntarily requested to participate, as leaders from Thadou Inpi Dima Hasao, Thadou Inpi Karbi Anglong, and Thadou Inpi Assam were also invited to attend. I joined the meeting to witness and endorse the people of Manipur acknowledgment of the Thadou’s distinct identity. I wholeheartedly support this initiative on humanitarian grounds and affirm my unwavering commitment to this initiative.
4. No degree of online trolling, misinformation, or personal threats will deter me from upholding the Thadou’s distinct identity or from supporting genuine peace initiatives in Manipur. I call upon all concerned to refrain from provocative statements and to actively contribute towards the path of peaceful understanding.
I remain steadfast in my prayer for lasting peace in Manipur.
Long Live Indigenous Unity!

Greeting on World Indigenous Day!
On the occasion of the International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples, the Kuki Organization for Human Rights Trust (KOHUR) stands in solidarity with Indigenous communities worldwide, particularly the Indigenous peoples of India, in reaffirming their rights, dignity, and survival. While this day celebrates the rich cultural heritage of Indigenous peoples, it also serves as a stark reminder of the systemic oppression and violence they continue to endure.
Humanitarian Catastrophe in Manipur
KOHUR urgently draws global attention to the state-orchestrated ethnic violence and humanitarian disaster inflicted upon the Indigenous Kuki-Zo people in Manipur since May 3, 2023. The crisis has resulted in:
230+ confirmed deaths, including women, children, and the elderly.
1,500+ villages and localities destroyed or abandoned.
7,000+ homes burned, displacing 60,000+ people into overcrowded and unsafe relief camps.
Irreversible cultural and socio-economic devastation, with livelihoods and community stability decimated.
Collapse of Essential Services
The humanitarian emergency persists due to the total breakdown of public infrastructure in Kuki-inhabited regions:
Zero functional government hospitals in affected hill districts.
80% of relief camps lack access to safe drinking water.
1 in 3 displaced persons suffer from preventable diseases, including diarrhoea, respiratory infections, and severe mental distress.
Maternal mortality rates have surged due to the absence of emergency healthcare.
Malnutrition exceeds WHO emergency thresholds in multiple camps and villages.
Forced Displacement and Mobility Restrictions
Due to prevailing law and order issues, Kuki-Zo communities remain cut off from essential supplies and medical care. Residents are forced to traverse dangerous jungle routes and river crossings, leading to fatalities. KOHUR demands immediate government intervention to construct all-weather roads and restore safe passage.
Violations of Indigenous Rights Along the Indo-Myanmar Border
The unilateral border fencing policy and abolition of the Free Movement Regime (FMR) have:
Severed 200+ villages from traditional cross-border markets.
Reduced trans-border trade by 70%, crippling Indigenous economies.
Divided families with deep historical and cultural ties, violating Articles 25–36 of the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP).
KOHUR’s Demands
On this critical day, KOHUR calls upon the Government of India and the Manipur State Government to:
1. Restore healthcare, clean water, and education in all conflict-affected Kuki-Zo areas.
2. End discriminatory policies and uphold Indigenous rights under UNDRIP and international law.
3. Halt border fencing projects until Free, Prior, and Informed Consent (FPIC) is obtained from affected communities.
4. Establish a separate administrative arrangement for the Kuki-Zo people to ensure protection from systemic oppression.
A Call for Justice, Not Symbolism
KOHUR urges the international community, human rights organizations, and the Indian government to transform this day from mere symbolism into decisive action. The Kuki-Zo people — and all Indigenous communities — deserve justice, restoration, and the right to determine their future.
Mizoram Governor, General (Dr) Vijay Kumar Singh, PVSM, AVSM, YSM (Retd), visited Lunglei District today, meeting with senior government officials, representatives from NGOs, church leaders, and ex-servicemen.

As part of his visit, the Governor toured the 20 Assam Rifles Headquarters, where he interacted with personnel and paid tribute to fallen soldiers by laying a wreath at the War Memorial.
THE Kuki people have a long history of loyalty and bravery. They fought not only for India but also for Manipur, defending the Meitei kings many times from outside attacks.
In 1917–1919, the Kukis defended their ancestral lands against the mighty British in what is known as the Anglo-Kuki War. Many Kukis also joined the struggle for India’s freedom and are remembered as freedom fighters in the INA Memorial Complex. In fact, out of 188 recorded freedom fighters from Manipur, 162 were Kukis. Their contributions are recorded district by district, with names still preserved in history.
Yet, despite this history of sacrifice, the Kukis have faced unspeakable suffering in recent times.
Since May 2023, the Kukis have been brutally attacked. Many were killed or maimed; Kuki women were raped and murdered in the most inhuman ways. Homes, properties, vehicles, and churches belonging to Kukis in Imphal were burned and destroyed by the majority Meitei Hindus. The Kukis were completely driven out of Manipur’s capital, and to this day, there is no Kuki presence in Imphal. For the Kukis, Zomis, and Hmars, Imphal has become the "capital of death".
Today, Meiteis and Kukis are physically, emotionally, and politically separated. Buffer zones now divide them, symbolizing the deep divide that may one day lead to greater separation.
For the Kukis, Zomis, and Hmars to survive, a separate administration is necessary. The discrimination and abuse from the Meitei majority show no signs of ending. Their aim appears to be a tribal status (ST tag), but aimed at taking over tribal lands. Sadly, the fellow tribal Nagas remain silent, still chasing the Framework Agreement from the Naga Peace Talks. If the Nagas do not wake up soon, it may be too late for the tribals of Manipur to unite and protect their ancestral land.
The buffer zones that exist today will remain a permanent reminder of the Meitei–Kuki conflict in history. One day, the Meiteis may look back with regret for their prejudice against the Kukis.

Delhi Govt’s Negligence Turns Munirka’s Service Road into a Monsoon Lake – A Shameful Repeat Every Year
This is not a rural back alley. This is a crucial service road in South Delhi, a capital city that claims to be on the path to becoming a “world-class metropolis.” And yet, a single spell of monsoon rain turns it into an urban pond every year.
The problem is neither new nor unforeseeable. Locals know that this road floods every monsoon, but the Delhi government and its concerned agencies — whether PWD, SDMC, or DJB — have consistently failed to fix the underlying issue: poor drainage infrastructure. Instead of taking preventive steps before the rains, authorities seem to be waiting for disaster to strike, only to send out excuses and photo-ops later.
This annual chaos is more than an inconvenience. It means:
Delayed public transport, affecting thousands of daily commuters.
Traffic jams that waste man-hours and fuel.
Damage to vehicles and increased risk of accidents.
Health hazards from stagnant, dirty water.
For a city that spends crores on “beautification” and PR campaigns, the inability to ensure basic stormwater drainage is nothing short of administrative incompetence. Citizens don’t need new slogans — they need working drains, timely desilting, and accountability for repeated negligence.
Until the government treats drainage management as a year-round priority rather than a post-flood embarrassment, Munirka and many other parts of Delhi will continue to drown in the same predictable mess — while officials stay dry in their offices.
If Delhi aspires to be a smart city, it must first prove it can handle a smart monsoon.

(Dated: 8th August, 2025)
Lamka, August 8, 2025: The Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM), the apex body representing the Kuki tribes, has strongly rejected the legitimacy of the Thadou Inpi Manipur (TIM) delegation that visited Imphal on August 6, 2025, allegedly to engage in "peace talks" with Meitei civil society organizations.
In a press release issued by KIM’s Secretary of Information & Publicity, Janghaulon Haokip, the organization condemned TIM and its 17-member delegation, declaring them ostracised from the Kuki community and enemies of the people for undermining the collective struggle and aspirations of the Kuki community.
Citing multiple resolutions—including the Inpi Proclamation (July 2023), Delhi Conclave Declaration (October 2023), and Shillong Summit Resolution (August 2024)—KIM asserted that Thadou Inpi Manipur holds no mandate to represent the Kuki people and has dissociated itself from Kuki identity.
The statement questions the timing and intent of the so-called "peace initiative" by TIM, especially as the Kuki people continue to face widespread displacement, persecution, and denial of justice. KIM argues that such unauthorized dialogues only dilute the gravity of the community’s suffering and fracture unity.
KIM reiterated that authentic representation is essential for any meaningful dialogue to resolve the ongoing Kuki–Meitei conflict. It called upon local, national, and international stakeholders to recognize the true voice of the Kuki people and reject any attempt by fringe elements to hijack or distort the movement.
“Peace cannot be built on exclusion, misrepresentation, or betrayal,” the release reads, urging justice, safety, and security for the Kuki community.
