Sinister Designs to Grab Kuki-Zo Land

1. It is an infringement on the part of the Manipur Forest Department that has no “ Locus Standi’ on the Ancestral Land of the Kuki-Zo, where the “Manipur land Revenue & land Reform Act 1960” Section 158, clearly safeguards tribal lands, prohibiting the transfer of lands to non-tribal in order to preserve the tribal custom and their land holding system.

This is a serious, grave and constitutional procedure lapse. The official rhetoric of calling the Kuki-Zo people encroachers is an attempt to alienate Tribal Population from their land.

Ironically, disregarding the norms for proper land acquisition, the diabolic Forest Acts and Rules were passed by the Manipur Forest Department such as “ The Enactment of the Manipur Forest Act 1971” and “ Manipur Forest Rule !921 & 2012.”

Here, Proposed, Protected and Reserved Forest are dragged out by the Principal Chief Conservation of Forest on the pressure of Chief Minister. Whereby the proposed forests shall be converted to Reserve Forest, whereas Protected and Reserved Forest shall follow the Indian Forest Act 1971.

Consequently, the Manipur Forest Rule 2021 was passed in favour of the Meiteis. Wherein, the Governor and the Chief Minister become the absolute power holders. The real intention is to take away our rights over tribal lands.

In fact, the Gauhati High Court (Manipur Bench) in the case of Nigom other v/s Semjathang (Chief) in 1990 stated that, in the Hills of Manipur, The chief is the land owner and the villagers are licenses.

The Manipur High Court in C. Wungam v/s Union of India (2016) held that… “in the hills of Manipur, it is the villagers to whom the land belongs”

Land is the Tribals most important natural resources and valuable assets and imperishable endowment from which the tribals drive their sustenance, develop social and economic status, obtain their social equality and permanence place abode, work and living. The tribals, therefore, have great emotional attachment to their land.

“Supreme Court of India (Samantha V/S state of Andhra Pradesh & Others)

2.      Another attempt to snatch our land is “ The Manipur Conservation of Paddy Land and Wet Land Act, 2005 & 2014”. In this Act, Anganphou, Phourel and Tauthabi has to convert into Hingol (residence). But the 2014 Act does not permit wetland and paddy field o convert into plot(residence). That is ironic and transgression of the Tribal Rights.

3.      Another act of Land grabbing scheme that the state Government of Manipur introduced is based on the invocation of mythical Meeitei icons and Meeitei gods to transform Tribal lands into archaeological sites such as Koubru in Kangpokpi, Chivu at Behiang, Thangting Hills, Sartuinek at Nangai river Range in Churachandpur.

4.      Kaihlam Wild-life Sanctuary is another means to own the land which convers more the 99 villages in Churachandpur.

5.      Autonomous district Council is kept at abeyance/non-functional, though it is the only body that governs and regulated the tribals of Manipur.

6.      Hill Area Committee under Article 371 `C’ constitutional set up is a lame-duck (powerless committee).

7.      State sponsor terrorist groups called Arambai Tenggol and Meetei Leepun killed the following people to provoked us: (1). Mr. Seigunlal Misao of Motbung (2). Mr Seiminthang of Moreh and (3). Mr Hanglalmuan of Churachandpur based on FB page post.

8.      Manipur Central Library was Burned down in 2005 by Meetei to destroyed all Kuki- Zo history and documents.

9.      17 Hmar Women in Tipaimukh, Churachandpur were gang rape by Meetei militans in January 2005.

10.  On 13th March 206, the Meeitei militant forcibly abducted 400 Kuki-Zo of Chandel district, Manipur into Burma as Human shield. In the same year, 47 Kuki-Zo were killed in Samtal, Khengjoi block at Chandel District, Manipur as a result of their oppressive measures and landmines.

11.  The Government of Manipur under CM Biren Singh schematically withdrew Assam Rifles and Indian Armies from Churachandpur District, Manipur in October 2022 in order to make free movement of Meitei militants from Myanmar and to rehabilitate them.

12.  The Government of Manipur, under CM Biren Singh schematically made us submit all licence guns through office order in all the Kuki-Zo Districts. These guns were later used by Arambai Tenggol and Meeitei Leepun to killed us. The proof is verified by recovered gun left by Meeitei Leepun and Arambai Tenggol during the attacked of Kuki-Zo Village at Sokom, Chandel District.

13.  They Schematically dug a tunnel, hiding bombs, Arms and Ammunitions in Khumujamba, Churachandpur District, Manipur. They even established emergency clinic underground with hi-tech CT scan facilities at Khumujamba, at the heart of Churachandpur town in preparation for the Genocide of Kuki-Zo People.

14.  They allege us as illegal immigrants and refugees from Burma. As such, bio-metric test and door to door visits were carried out by the government officials which in turn proof them wrong.

15.  They gun down one Bihari Businessman and one Army Major family in Churachandpur.

16.  To challenge us, the Meeitei militants demands ransom/money from the owners of private school and college in Churachandpur.

17.  They move around in towns and villages by Bolero (tinted glass) with guns and drone, collecting data.

18.  They curb our freedom of speech, expression and movement, for the same, Dr Mark Thangmang Haokip was kept in jail.

19.  They secretly try to take away all PDS supply from IFCI Godown and were caught red- handed.

20.  They illegally transferred some portion of the Tribal paddy lands and villages under their districts like Jamabandi and Dak Chitha.

21.  They demand Schedule Tribe (ST) for all solution even though they are already highly advance in all fields and expertise. Their craftly and scheming demand for ST status is just to grab our land and resources.

22.  They allege the Kuki-Zo people as Poppy Cultivators but Biren Singh and some of his ministers were personally named in the Court Case filed by Brind Thounaujam (MPS) for smuggling Heroine No. 4.

23.  The Meeitei Volunteers, disguised as government officials surveyed houses in Greater Imphal areas and listed/marked (red-painted colours) the house of Kuki-Zo people for attacked, before the current genocide.

24.  They have eaten up all the funds meant for tribals.

Thank You Note: In Loving Memory of Ruby Haokip (1969–2025) | Paothang Haokip

Dear friends,

Thanks for your condolance message. Some may have seen in the social media post or heard from others about the tragic news of Ruby's death on the early morning of 17th August 2025 at 12:30am. She had issues with left side artery blockage on 22nd July which was taken care by giving her 2 stents. She had been suffering from Trigeminal Neuralgia for many years which resulted in all kinds of symptions and we have taken several measure to arrest the pain.

However, she suffered Acute Cornary Artery issue on 16 Aug evening and was immediately taken to the Hospital and was given treatment in the Emergency and ICU but could not survived and breath her last at BLK- Max Super Speciallity Hospital in Delhi. After condolance Service on 17 August evening by the Kuki Worship Service, her body was taken to my ancestral village called Sita in Manipur by me, our son Timothy and his wife on 18 August morning by flight to Aizawl and then by road from there to our ancestral village.

Pastor Paothang Haokip offering prayers for
his beloved late wife at a hospital in New Delhi.

As we cannot travel in the certain areas of Manipur valley to go to my village which would have been a 3 hours flight from Delhi to Imphal and another 3 hours ride by road from Imphal to my village called Sita, we took Ruby's body by flight to Aizawl, Mizoram and then by road from Aizawl airport to my village in Manipur that took altogether 28 hours as we had to stop at 10 difference places - condolance services at three places and seven different places for the villagers, relatives, churches groups and civil Society groups to pay their last homage to Ruby and offer prayer.

We landed at Aizawl on 18 August afternoon and after the first condolance service at Aizawl airport head for Manipur. The first condolance service at Aizawl airport was led by the Airport Chaplain and Pastor of Kuki Worship Service, Aizawl. When we reach Singhat village in Manipur on 19 August morning we found people waiting for us on the road to pay homage by offering wreaths and traditioinal shawls which was also the case in other places. I am overwhelmed by the love and concern shown by so many people on the way. We thank the Lord for His goodness and protection all through the long journey on the hilly and rugged road.

After keeping her body for a night in my ancestral home, she was laid to rest at 12 noon on 20 August 2025. I have never dreamt or expected of such a warm welcome at different places. In each and every step I saw God's leading hand. Yes, there is grief in my heart for Ruby's sudden death but thank God and deeply grateful to the people whom God used to bless and encourage us.

After all the formalities for Ruby, I left my village on 26th August along with my son, Timothy and his wife Elizabeth traveled another route to come to Dimapur, Nagaland, which took 16 hours. After visiting some friends and being with my son and his wife for a day, I left Dimapur on 28th August and came to Delhi to stay with my daughter's family, which will be my home for now. Glory be to God and thanks to all His people who have been a blessing to us in every way.

PHAITUI VANGKHUA
~ Phaisat Song

(A) Phatui vangkhua niing leh aai nian na,
Na ngai nai maw lia leh tang aw e.

(B) Ngai lai ing e lia leh tang aw,
Setang simna, sawmsial i simna zong kaai lai e.

Free Translation:
Phaisat is a land rich in food and sustenance.
Haven’t you cherished it, O you – gentlemen and ladies?

I still cherish it, O you – gentlemen and ladies.
This land of abundant grains and countless mithun remains ever refreshing.

Notes:

  • Phaitui is the poetic form of the word Phaisat.

  • Setang refers to abundant food grains.

  • Sawmsial refers to mithun, domesticated in large numbers by the Thangkhal people in Phaisat.

  • The people of Phaisat are hardworking. Year after year, they could not even finish the old harvest before the new one arrived. This abundance continued for many generations. Not only this, but every evening and night in Phaisat was like a festival. It is often said that in Phaisat, festivals never end.

  • This song is still sung by the Thangkhal during festivals, reflecting the deep significance of Phaisat in their lives and memories.

  • Phaisat is one of the oldest and most renowned Thangkhal-speaking villages, remembered as a place where starvation was never known.

Theikhuangtawm: A Tangy Wild Fruit of Thangkhal Hills

This fruit, locally known as Theikhuangtawm, is found in the scenic Thangkhal Hills. Though not considered particularly tasty, it is a mouth-watering fruit with a sharp, tangy acidity that instantly awakens the taste buds. Its unique sourness makes it a favourite for those who enjoy bold, refreshing flavours. Often enjoyed fresh or shared among friends, Theikhuangtawm holds a special place in the Thangkhal culture as a wild, seasonal delight of the hills.

Some of the most well-known Thangkhal Hills include:

  • Mulam (Hill of a Soaring Kite, the first settlement of the Thangkhal people)

  • Kulhvum (Hill of Watchmen)

  • Gamdawngvum (Hill of Green Grass / Green Pasture / Rearing Animals)

  • Sangakmualvum (Hill of Jackals)

  • Tuaitengvum (Hill where Tuiaiteng fruits grow abundantly)

  • Gaallamtangvum (Hill Range of Resistance against Intruders)

  • Thangkhal Lamtun (Hill where the Thangkhal people once halted)

  • Teutevum (Small but sharp hill, dangerous to cross, yet unavoidable as there is no alternative route)

According to Thangkhal elders, Theikhuangtawm fruits are mostly found near flowing hill rivers, thriving best in open spaces where no other trees block the sunlight.

How Britain Defeated China with Opium

1️⃣ Britain had a trade deficit with China (tea, silk, porcelain).
2️⃣ To balance, they smuggled opium from India into China.
3️⃣ Millions of Chinese became addicted, draining China's silver & weakening society.
4️⃣ When China tried to ban opium, Britain launched the Opium Wars (1839–42, 1856–60).
5️⃣ China lost both wars → forced to sign Unequal Treaties, cede Hong Kong, and legalize opium.
6️⃣ Result: Century of Humiliation – addiction, foreign domination, and loss of sovereignty.

Gong-Sounding Stone Discovered in Zogam – A Natural Wonder

IN the hills of Zogam, a fascinating natural wonder has captured the attention of local villagers in Suangsang village — a massive stone that produces the sound of a gong when struck.

This extraordinary rock, sitting prominently on a cliffside, resonates with a deep metallic tone whenever its corners are hit, much like the sound of a traditional gong used in cultural gatherings.

Strikingly, not every part of the stone responds the same way. While the edges and certain spots ring out with clarity, some middle portions remain silent, producing only a dull thud.

Recently, some curious Zomi villagers visited the site to experience the stone for themselves. With small stones and bare hands, they tapped different surfaces and were amazed by the varying sounds that emerged. For them, it was not just an unusual natural formation but also a reminder of the mysteries hidden in the land of Zogam.

Many believe such stones hold cultural and spiritual significance, symbolizing the harmony between nature and tradition. Others see it as a rare geological phenomenon worth studying and preserving. Either way, the gong-sounding stone has become a point of wonder and pride for the local community.

As word spreads, this natural marvel is expected to draw more visitors, adding to the charm and cultural richness of Zogam. It stands as a reminder that sometimes the earth itself can create music, waiting to be discovered by those willing to listen.

Equally commendable are Dr. Doungel's contributions to the Kuki Students' Organisation, Delhi & NCR, where he has served with distinction in various capacities — Area Representative (2008–09, 2010–11), Publicity and Information Secretary (2012–13), Education Secretary (2014–15), General Secretary (2015–16), and External Vice President (2017–18). His years of dedicated service reflect not only his leadership but also his deep commitment to the welfare and empowerment of the student community.

The Organisation extends its warmest congratulations and best wishes to Dr. Letginlen Doungel for continued success in his academic and professional pursuits.

Best regards

UKDA: Scathing Denunciation of Baseless Accusations

The Arambai Tenggol's reprehensible accusations against the United Kukigam Defence Army (UKDA) regarding the
recent murder are utterly false, malicious, and defamatory. These unfounded allegations are a blatant attempt to besmirch the UKDA's reputation and sow discord.

We categorically reject these spurious claims and demand an immediate retraction and unconditional apology. We call upon Arambai Tenggol to refrain from spreading incendiary rhetoric and to respect the rule of law. Failure to retract their statement will lead us to explore all available legal avenues to protect our integrity.
