Protect Kuki Inn Estate: A symbol of courage and heritage

📍Kuki Independence War Memorial Committee appeals to Manipur governor for protection and preservation of Kuki Inn Estate in Imphal*

Kuki Independence War Memorial Committee has appealed to the governor of Manipur  Ajay Kumar Bhalla for the protection and preservation of the historic Kuki Inn Estate at Babupara in Imphal stating that Kuki Inn Estate is a historic landmark that embodies the courage, sacrifice, and enduring spirit of the Kuki people

Kuki Independence War Memorial Committee appealed to the governor to provide full protection and security to the entire Kuki Inn complex and its adjoining estate, initiate restoration and preservation efforts for the damaged sections and recognize the Kuki Inn Estate as a protected cultural and heritage landmark of Manipur.

In its letter, the committee stated that the Kuki Inn and its adjoining memorial complex were established to honor the supreme sacrifices of the Kukis who valiantly resisted the British colonial forces during the Kuki Rising (1917–1919) - a defining struggle for freedom and dignity.

The committee added that the heroic uprising, which lasted nearly three years, saw, over 120 Kuki warriors killed, 126 villages burnt, and Rs. 1,67,441 extracted from the Kukis as reparation through forced penal labour the com

"In recognition of this historic episode, the Government of India, sanctioned funds for the construction a memorial complex on 0.3522 hectares of land at Babupara, Imphal and within this estate stands the Kuki Inn, a three-storied museum and community complex, along with two important monuments - one commemorating the Kuki Heroes of the 1917-1919 Uprising, and another honoring the Kuki Freedom Fighters who served under the Indian National Army (INA)", the letter stated.

In the wake of the ethnic conflict, the entire Kuki community was forced to flee from Imphal, in May 2023— leaving behind not only their homes but also their heritage and today, not a single kuki soul remains to watch over the Kuki Inn Estate, a site that holds within its walls the priceless legacy of our ancestors, the committee added.

" With deep sorrow, we note that during the early days of the violence, one of the buildings within the complex was reportedly set ablaze. What once stood as a proud symbol of our collective memory now lies vulnerable - exposed to neglect, encroachment, and the silent erosion of a history that deserves to be preserved", the letter added.

Further the committee went on to state that the Kuki Inn is not merely a physical structure; it is a living symbol of identity, unity, and remembrance - a testament to the shared sacrifices that bind Kuki community to the broader history of Manipur and India.

🇮🇳 Our Demand for UT — Present Status (Fact Check) 🇮🇳 ~ Pakhum

🧾 Fact: MHA said creating a new UT is not feasible under current policy but needs broad consultations.

➡️ Meaning: Policy may not allow it now, but the Constitution (Article 3) allows it.

Policy can change — the Constitution cannot.

🏛️ Past Examples – First Rejected, Later Approved:

Telangana – "Not feasible" → State (2014)

Jharkhand – "Too small" → State (2000)

Delhi – "Security issue" → UT with Legislature (1991)

Ladakh – "Sensitive area" → UT (2019)

Puducherry – "Too small" → UT with Legislature (1962)

👉 Our UT Demand: "Not feasible" + "Broad consultations" → Under consideration

⚖️ Legal Point:
Article 3 empowers Parliament to create or alter States/UTs.

No amendment needed.

"Not feasible" = Policy stance, not legal rejection.

✅ Conclusion:
Centre has not rejected our UT demand.

"Broad consultations" means the door is open.

Every new State/UT in India began with "not feasible."

📘 Our demand for UT is constitutional, possible, and still open.

A Tragic Loss in Palkhuang Village This November

In the quiet village of Palkhuang, about 160 kilometres from Lamka town, November is always a busy month. The cold winds of winter have started to blow, and everyone—men and women alike—works hard to finish their harvests before Christmas arrives. The fields are full of life, laughter, and the sound of people working together.

But this year, a deep sadness has fallen upon the village. On the 8th of November 2025, a woman named Pamzaniang, the beloved wife of S. Thangzalian, suddenly passed away while joyfully harvesting in her field. She suffered a stroke caused by high blood pressure, and though her neighbours rushed to help, she could not be saved.

What was once a day of joy and fulfilment turned into one of sorrow and tears. The village mourns her deeply—a hardworking woman, kind-hearted and cheerful, gone too soon.

We lift our prayers for her soul and for the bereaved family. May God grant them comfort and strength in this time of grief.

Even in the midst of winter’s cold, the warmth of love and community in Palkhuang reminds us that life, though fragile, is shared—and that every moment together truly matters.

Rest in Peace 😭😰🙏

The Kukis deserve a full-fledged Statehood under lndian Constitution

1. The Kukis fought against the British from 1917-19 for about 3years known as the Anglo-Kuki War long before lndia got its independence.

2. During India's freedom struggle in 1940s, around 80 Kuki men joined the lNA under the leadership of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose to fight for India's freedom.

3. While living under the lndian Union, in the 1990s, the NSCN- lM militants headed by Th Muivah killed more than 1,100 Kukis and seized a large part of their land, but so far the Indian government has not served justice to Kukis.

4. When the lndian Goverment is still ignoring how much the Kukis have contributed to the nation, recently on 3rd May 2023, the Meiteis (Arambai Tenggols & Meitei Leepuns terrorists & all valley based insurgent groups) under the Chief ministership of N. Biren Singh attacked innocent Kuki civilians and brutally killed around 100 of them, burnt down their houses, churches and villages.

We, the Kukis are not playing baseless politics but we have our history and background recorded in the London University and many other libraries in the world and people are aware of it already. Why is lndia government still unable to grant even a small separate state for Kukis?

Lamka Tribute Concert: “Charity Night” by Falcon Band

A special Tribute Concert titled “Charity Night” will be held at Blue Star Academy, Lailam Veng, Central Lamka, on 1 December 2025. The event will be presented by Lamka Sound and co-sponsored by Tunnu (Engineering & Consultancy) and Providence Guest House. It will feature the prominent Zomi music group, Falcon Band.

This concert is dedicated in loving memory of two popular Zomi singers — Lengton Paunou and Lengton Kapno.

Lengton Paunou, one of the golden voices of the old generation, came from a humble background and overcame many hardships in life. His songs, filled with deep emotion and reflections of real-life struggles, remain evergreen and continue to inspire listeners even today.

Kapno, on the other hand, represented a more modern era of Zomi music. His lively and soulful songs captured the hearts of the youth and brought a refreshing style to the Zomi music scene.

During the concert, songs from both Lengton Paunou and Kapno will be performed, creating a nostalgic and emotional evening for Zomi music lovers.

It promises to be a memorable night—a time to celebrate their musical legacy and honour their lasting contributions to the Zomi community.

KNO-UPF: Centre, SoO Groups Begin Talks on UT for Kuki-Zo People

📍UNITED PEOPLE'S FRONT (UPF)
&
KUKI NATIONAL ORGANISATION (KNO)
PRESS RELEASE

CENTRE, SOO GROUP BEGIN TALKS ON UT FOR KUKI ZO PEOPLE
New Delhi, 8 November 2025

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) and representatives of Kuki-Zo armed groups under Suspension of Operation (SoO)—the Kuki National Organisation (KNO) and the United People's Front two days talks on 6 and 7 November 2025, focusing on the core demand for a Union Territory with a Legislative Assembly. The talks also covered a wide range of issues concerning the tribal people.

The KNO and UPF delegations, currently under the SoO framework, were led by senior leaders of the two umbrella groups; MHA was represented by AK Mishra, long-time Advisor, North East, MHA.

On the first day (6 November), discussions centered around the implementation of September 4 tripartite agreement between the MHA, Government of Manipur, and the SoO group. The SoO group expressed the need for addressing administration and governance in Kuki Zo inhabited districts under the current circumstances.

The second day (November 7) focused on the political demand for UT with Legislature with the KNO and UPF leadership reiterating that 'coexistence under the Manipur state administrative setup is no longer possible', following the violent 'ethnic cleansing' that began in Imphal on 3 May 2023.

Historical justifications were highlighted for the political demand that the Kuki Zo Hills were never under the control of the Manipur State Durbar before Independence. It was also pointed out was that under British rule, the Kuki Zo lands and other tribal areas were classified as 'Excluded Areas' under the Government of India Act, 1935. They were administered directly by the British Political Agent, not by the Meitei king - Kuki Zo governance rested with the traditional chiefs, who exercised complete control over land, justice, and local affairs.

Incompatibility of tribal land tenure system—based on ownership under chiefs—with the valley's state-controlled land model was discussed. When the British unified the administration for convenience, dual governance remained intact, with the valley under the Maharaja's rule and the hills under the British Political Agent. Administratively, politically, and culturally, the tribal people had never been organically part of the Manipur State before 1947.

Given this history, the Kuki-Zo representatives maintained that their demand for Union Territory status with a legislature is rooted in constitutional and historical legitimacy. That post-merger integration of Manipur in 1949 unfairly absorbed the hill regions into a valley-centric governance structure, disregarding tribal autonomy and traditional rights was emphasised. Government compensated only the Meitei king, not the Kuki Zo chiefs. Creating a separate administrative unit for the hill tribes within the constitutional framework of India would not be an act of secession but a restoration of our pre-independence autonomy and a step toward a lasting equitable governance, security, and development within the Indian Union.

During the meeting, AK Mishra reiterated that whilst the Government of India is sensitive to the plight of the Kuki Zo people, the current policy does not support creation of new Union Territories. He also stressed the need for consultations with other communities in Manipur. The KNO/UPF delegation urged the Centre to reconsider its position in view of the fact that the Constitution is above Government policy. The delegation also pointed out that the ground zero situation in the state made coexistence impossible between the two communities, requiring the need to invoke necessary provisions of the Constitution to secure Kuki Zo lives and property.

The talks also covered key community concerns, including issues of land, forests, customs, and development, along with mutual confidence-building measures to be pursued alongside the regular political dialogue.

The SoO leaders urged the MHA to take concrete steps to protect traditional tribal land rights and uphold the authority of chiefs, who traditionally manage land and customary matters in the hill areas. They also urged Government to remove administrative hurdles related to the succession of village chiefs after their demise, and to simplify procedures for land registration and deed processing, which currently require travel to Imphal—an area that has become inaccessible and unsafe for the Kuki-Zo community since the outbreak of ethnic violence.

The severe problems faced by the IDPs was discussed at length in respect to their rehabilitation being expedited with essential security and amenities ensured by Government.

KNA Warns Bangladesh Government: Heavy Pressure Will Only Strengthen Resistance

The harder the army and government act against the KNA, the stronger the KNA will become. The government keeps claiming that the KNA will disappear if it continues its policy of divide and rule.

If these false and short-sighted ideas do not stop, the government will have to pay a very high price — and blaming the KNA will bring them no benefit.

Remember: the king of the jungle, the lion, fights until death.

"Blaming the KNA won't help — like a lion, we will fight until the end."

Tangkhul Naga Long Resolution on Delimitation & VIth Schedule

OFFICE OF THE TANGKHUL NAGA LONG (TNL)

Headquarters: Ukhrul
Ref. No. .........................................................
Date: 07-11-2025

RECOMMENDATION

Made on the 7th of November, 2025 at TNL Office cum Multipurpose Complex Hall during One Day Consultative Meeting on Delimitation, Budget Bifurcation & VIth Schedule organized by Tangkhul Naga Long.

  1. On the Principles of equity and justice as envisaged in constitutional democracy, the Tribals of Manipur should be given accurate/proportionate people’s representation in the 60 strong Legislative Assembly of Manipur.

Accordingly, fair mandate demands that in the 60 strong Legislative Assembly of Manipur, the Tribals should have 35 representatives and 25 should go to the valley. (Tribals own 90% of land, valley owns 10%. Population wise – Tribal constitute 15 lakhs and the Valley 17 lakhs)

  2. We are not asking for two budgets but we demand the existing budget in the Legislative Assembly of Manipur be bifurcated into two components as per the intent of Article 371C. One component should be for the valley and the other should go to the hills with all the resources being implemented through the Hill Areas Committee.

Therefore, Budget Bifurcation should be put in place without any delay.

  3. VIth Schedule, being important and intrinsic to protecting our land and its resources, our identity, our culture, our customary law and in the absence of which, we could not assert our rights eventually leading to economic deprivation and myriad hardship, we should demand VIth Schedule under Article 244A in right earnest.

Our demand for VIth Schedule has nothing to do with Naga national movement but it is for the upliftment of the Tribals of Manipur in all aspects and just as our counterparts in other states have enjoyed we are asking for the same which is provided under the Indian Constitution.

𝐒𝐞𝐢𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐠 𝐊𝐮𝐤𝐢, A respected lawyer and long-time member of KSOD, Adv. Seilenmang has devoted years of service to student and community causes. Currently working with KOHUR (Kuki Human Rights), his legal expertise plays a vital role in defending our people’s rights and strengthening institutional advocacy. His experience is invaluable, and his commitment to the community is unquestionable. Yet, as a lawyer, his focus and time are often drawn toward human rights work — an area where his skills are most needed and impactful.

𝗛𝗲𝗻𝗹𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗻 𝗞𝘂𝗸𝗶, a former President of KSOD, is known for his dedication, humility, and readiness to serve in any responsibility entrusted to him. During his tenure, he built valuable connections and maintained a cooperative relationship with various student and community leaders. His willingness to act and contribute whenever called upon reflects his genuine commitment to the cause. However, while his enthusiasm is commendable, he sometimes struggles with firm decision-making and could strengthen his leadership through greater focus on education and strategic direction.

𝗝𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗴𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗲𝗻 𝗞𝘂𝗸𝗶, the current Education Secretary of KSOD, also previously served as an executive member of KSO Imphal, where he gained valuable organisational experience. Known for his sincerity and strong sense of responsibility, he carries a genuine burden to serve the community in his own way, often stepping forward to support educational and social initiatives. His commitment and energy make him a dependable team player. However, his short temper remains a weakness that sometimes affects his composure, an area he continues to work on improving.

𝐍𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐧𝐞𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐊𝐮𝐤𝐢, a passionate student leader and an IDP from Langching, has been actively involved with KZWFD and KSOD. Once a favourite to be the KZWFD Convenor, she unfortunately couldn’t contest due to age limits, yet she never stepped back in any way from her efforts to serve her people. Her resilience, strong communication skills, and readiness to reach out wherever the community needs her have made her a respected voice among the youth. As a student and displaced individual, she leads with compassion, courage, and integrity.

The other candidates have also contributed in their own meaningful ways—some working quietly behind the scenes, others taking the lead in organizing, mobilizing, and guiding the youth. Each has shown a level of dedication that truly deserves appreciation.

If I were to make a personal choice, I would stand with someone who has proven their commitment through action—someone who has sacrificed, spoken the truth without fear, and earned the people’s trust through genuine service. From what I have observed, Nengneiting Khongsai embodies those qualities. She carries not only the essence of leadership but also the compassion and determination that the KSOD needs at this crucial time.

The information and assessments presented here are based on Team Voice Of The Kuki’s findings and observations. We have shared our views with honesty and responsibility to help the public make an informed choice. However, the final decision rests entirely with you. Suangdoh | Zogam⛳ | Harvesting

The pictures show the harvest season of Suangdoh villagers, a time filled with joy and gratitude. After months of hard work under the sun, their effort has finally borne fruit. The golden fields show the crops ready for gathering, while the sacks filled with produce tell stories of patience, teamwork, and dedication. Men and women work together, carrying heavy loads along the roadside, a common sight during harvest time in the hills. This season marks not just the end of labour, but also the beginning of thanksgiving — a reminder that God’s blessing comes through honest work and perseverance. For the people of Suangdoh, every sack represents the reward of their hands and the faithfulness of God in providing for their needs.

Suangdoh is a Zomi village located along National Highway 102B (NH 102B), also known as Guite Road. This road connects Lamka with Mizoram, and the village is about 60 km away from Lamka town.

In history, Suangdoh has always been under the rule of the Guite clan. The Suangdoh chiefs come from the family line of Thangpau, the third son of Innpipa Pu Vummang — the 17th direct descendant of Pu Guite. From his capital at present-day Teddim, Pu Vummang ruled over many villages that paid him taxes and followed his authority.

In 2016, Suangdoh Sub-Division (TD Block) was created, covering around 30 villages in the area. The nearest Tehsils are Singngat (35 km away) and Mualnuam (40 km away), while the district headquarters, Lamka, lies 60 km to the north.

Today, Suangdoh has over 200 households. The village has a Primary Health Centre (PHC) or Health & Wellness Centre, a Government High School, and a Church-run Junior High School named Kaikhoen Academy. The village stretches about 2 km in length.

Several rivers — Tuivel, Tuilak, Tuivai, Zaupilui, Louhak Lui, Govomlui, and Enpailui — flow in and around the village.

According to the 2011 Census of India, Suangdoh had 247 households with a total population of 1,402 people — 707 males and 695 females.

Response to a Recent Statement by S.C. Jamir

What S.C. Jamir said is not entirely wrong, but it reflects a misunderstanding, or perhaps a deliberate misrepresentation, of the deeper truth. When he claims that the Nagas of Manipur and other regions are not indigenous to Nagaland, he is stating something that no Naga has ever contested.

It is an absolute truth: no Naga or tribe from outside the present state of Nagaland can be considered an indigenous inhabitant of that state. The truth is self-evident. Every Naga community is indigenous to its own ancestral land, whether that land lies in Manipur, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, or even across the border in Myanmar. Each belongs to its own hills, its own soil, and its own heritage. No one is trying to encroach upon or claim another’s land.

S.C. Jamir is indeed a tall political figure, a signatory to the 16-Point Agreement and one who has long played a significant role in India’s political framework. However, it must be acknowledged that he speaks today from the perspective of the Indian state, not from the spirit of the Naga national cause. He has chosen India’s side, and that is his personal conviction and right.

What is concerning, however, is the tone and intent behind his recent statement. In a video circulating online, Jamir referred to the “Nagas of Manipur” as “Manipuris,” using words that many Nagas in the south found dismissive and even provocative. Whether this stems from his personal resentment toward the Southern Nagas, or his old political rivalry with Th. Muivah, one cannot say for certain. But what is clear is that such language, divisive and condescending, is unbecoming of a respected elder statesman. Instead of healing wounds, it risks deepening the divide among our people.

When Jamir asks why the Nagas from other regions did not integrate with Nagaland after its creation, he overlooks a crucial truth. The formation of the state of Nagaland under the Indian Union was never the fulfilment of the collective Naga dream, it was, in fact, a compromise. For many Nagas, it symbolized not unity, but fragmentation. It offered limited administrative recognition to the Nagas within the new state, yes, but it came at the cost of the larger aspiration for sovereignty and national unity. Those within the newly formed state found relative peace and opportunity, but those outside, in Manipur, Assam, Arunachal, and Myanmar, they were left under different political systems, often facing neglect, discrimination, and suppression.

Thus, the creation of Nagaland, while significant, also weakened the Naga movement by dividing the people it was meant to unite. Yet, despite this, the struggle for identity, dignity, and self-determination continued and still continues.

The Nagas from outside Nagaland who migrated to the state in its early years did so not to claim indigeneity, nor to take what belonged to others. They came seeking safety, livelihood, and kinship, among their own people. Their presence in Nagaland is not an invasion; it is a reflection of shared heritage and brotherhood.

So yes, the Nagas of Manipur or other areas are not indigenous to the state of Nagaland. But they are unquestionably indigenous to their own Naga ancestral lands, whether in Manipur, Arunachal, Assam, or Myanmar.

Let us remember: Nagaland was born from the shared struggle of all Nagas, not the other way around. The foundation of Nagaland rests upon the sacrifices, hopes, and blood of Nagas from every region. We must stop using administrative boundaries to insult one another, and instead speak with understanding and respect. Words can heal or divide, and at this stage in our shared history, we need healing more than ever.

May truth prevail, and may unity return among all Naga people. God bless you all.

Kuknalim! 🙏
