Zogam Today Celebrates 13th Anniversary: A Journey of Faith and Dedication

BY the grace and mercy of our good Lord, Zogam Today joyfully celebrates its 13th Anniversary on 30th October 2025. It was on this very day in 2012 that the first edition of Zogam Today hit the media stands in Lamka as a bilingual daily newspaper — published in both the Zou dialect and English. This marked a proud and historic moment for the Zou community, as it became the first daily of its kind.

Before becoming a daily, Zogam Today began its humble journey as a monthly magazine on 14th May 2011, carrying the inspiring motto: “Our Today, Our Future & History.” For 16 months, it continued to reach the community with dedication, promoting unity, awareness, and progress. This motto still stands as the guiding light of the paper — reminding every reader that our actions today shape both our future and our shared history.

At the heart of this remarkable journey stands our beloved Editor, Mr. Lun Samte, whose humility, faith, and tireless effort have been the backbone of Zogam Today. Since its inception, he has worked day and night — often sacrificing his sleep, personal comfort, and family time — to ensure that each issue reaches the readers on time. Many of us have seen him staying awake through the night, carefully managing the paper so that every dawn brings a new edition to life.

Mr. Samte is not only a devoted Christian, a loving husband, and a caring father, but also a man deeply rooted in media ethics. His journalistic work has always been guided by truth, impartiality, and fairness, reflecting his belief that journalism must serve the people honestly and without bias.

A passionate journalist and a gifted writer in the Zou dialect, he has inspired many through his words and actions. Beyond journalism, he is also a talented lyricist — several of his Christian and patriotic songs have been featured in motion albums, touching hearts across generations. Despite his talents, he remains humble and grounded, known to all for his kindness, honesty, and helping nature.

He has also contributed greatly to the wider media community, serving as Secretary of both the Manipur Hill Journalists Union (MHJU) and the Churachandpur District Journalists Union (CDJU). His leadership reflects not only professionalism but also a philanthropic heart and a zeal for the social upliftment of society.

Throughout these 13 years, Zogam Today has faced numerous challenges — from poor internet connectivity and erratic power supply to the high cost of paper and printing. Yet, through every difficulty, God’s faithful hand has sustained us. There are countless ways in which His guidance and provision have kept this newspaper alive, far beyond what our human minds can express.

As the Bible reminds us in Galatians 6:9 (NRSV) — “So let us not grow weary in doing what is right, for we will reap at harvest time, if we do not give up.” Truly, this verse mirrors the life and work of our Editor, who never gave up, even in the toughest of times. His perseverance and faith continue to be an example to all of us who walk this journey together.

Today, as we celebrate this milestone, we extend our heartfelt thanks to Editor Lun Samte, who has been a guiding light and steady hand through every storm. We also express our deep appreciation to the editorial team, whose commitment and teamwork have helped Zogam Today reach this far.

To our beloved readers and supporters, we say thank you for your continued trust and encouragement. Your prayers, feedback, and love have been our greatest strength.

May the Almighty continue to bless Zogam Today, its Editor, staff, and readers — that together, we may keep shining the light of truth, service, and hope for generations to come.

On behalf of the Editorial Team,

Joint Editor, Zogam Today
(Serving since May 2011)

KLA-L: "JUSTICE OVERDUE: NO MORE EXCUSES"

Office of the
KUKI LIBERATION ARMY-LETKHOLUN (KLA-L)
GOVERNMENT OF KUKILAND
"WINGS OF THE MOTHERLAND"

Date: 29th October 2025
PRESS COMMUNIQUE
JUSTICE OVERDUE: NO MORE EXCUSES

The atrocities committed against Kuki innocent civilians, including women and children, in 1992-1993 by the NSCN-IM were a grave affront to human dignity and a stark reminder of the depths of human depravity. The endorsement of the alleged perpetrator, Mr. Th. Muivah, by a faction claiming to represent the Kuki people is a disturbing development that warrants immediate scrutiny and condemnation.

Kuki Innpi Manipur must provide a categorical and unequivocal response to this crisis, clarifying the role and authority of its affiliate, Kuki Innpi Sadar Hills, in this heinous act- an act akin to symbolically waving the so-called Naga flag, thereby flaunting its contempt for the Kuki people's values. The organization's credibility and legitimacy as a representative of the Kuki people hang in the balance, and it is imperative that they take swift and decisive action to address this grave situation.

The incident has brought shame and ignominy to the Kuki people, and it is crucial that those responsible are answerable for their actions. And it is incumbent upon those responsible to offer an unqualified apology and to proffer restitution to the Kuki people for the indignity and harm occasioned, without any delay.

The pursuit of justice, accountability, and human rights must guide this matter, ensuring the victims and their families receive the dignity and respect they deserve. Anything less would betray the Kuki people's values and tacitly endorse such atrocities.

TSA-GHQ: 68 Years of Resilience: Thadou Spirit Beyond Boundaries

THE 68th
THADOU STUDENTS’ ASSOCIATION
FOUNDATION DAY MESSAGE
29th October, 2025

On this historic occasion of the 68th Foundation Day of the Thadou Students’ Association (TSA), the TSA-GHQ/AITSA extends warm greetings and heartfelt appreciation to all members, leaders, and well-wishers across India and abroad.

Founded in 1957 at Motbung, Manipur, the TSA has been the enduring voice of education, unity, and Thadou identity. For 68 years, the Association has stood resilient through trials and transitions, driven by the indomitable spirit of the Thadou people — a spirit that no conflict or crisis can silence.

The theme for this year, “68 Years of Resilience: Thadou Spirit Beyond Boundaries”, deeply resonates with our present reality. The 2023 Manipur violence has left a deep and lasting scar on the Thadou people. Many TSA Branches and Blocks in Manipur remain subdued or inactive due to the prevailing circumstances and the dominance of Kuki supremacy. The Thadou community was misidentified as Kukis and tragically caught in the middle of a conflict not of its making. As one of the worst-affected communities, the Thadous have suffered immense loss of life, property, and displacement. Yet, in the face of hardship, we continue to stand firm — upholding peace, resilience, and the spirit of communal harmony. For we believe that peace is not for the weak or the timid, but for the bold and the strong.

Despite these adversities, we stand strong and assertive of our true roots and identity as Thadous. We categorically reject all attempts to misrepresent or subsume our distinct identity. At the same time, we reaffirm our unwavering commitment to peace, justice, and coexistence. The TSA believes that the path forward lies not in division or hostility, but in mutual understanding and dialogue. We therefore call for greater community solidarity and cooperation between the Thadou people and the wider Manipur Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) to restore peace and rebuild trust.'

The TSA continues to operate as one united body — from the Central Working Committee (CWC) to Executive Members (EM) of its Branches, Blocks, and Units across India. Together, we carry forward the mission of our founders: to serve, to educate, and to preserve the Thadou identity with dignity and courage.

As we commemorate this 68th milestone, let us renew our faith in the Thadou Spirit — unbroken, boundless, and beyond boundaries. May we rise again, stronger and more united, for our people and for peace in our land.

Long Live TSA! Long Live the Thadou People!

Thadou Spirit Beyond Boundaries!

THADOU INPI MANIPUR: CONGRATULATORY MESSAGE

Wednesday, the 29th October 2025

The Thadou Inpi Manipur (TIM), the apex body of the Thadou people in Manipur, extends its heartfelt congratulations to the Thadou Students' Association (TSA-GHQ/AITSA) on the occasion of its 68th Foundation Day.

Founded on 29th October 1957 at Motbung, Manipur, the TSA stands as the first organised and official Thadou body in modern Thadou society. We pay deep respect to the pioneering student leaders whose foresight and dedication gave rise to this historic organisation.

The Thadou Inpi Manipur, established on 1st March 1984 as the Thadou National Council, Manipur, inspired in no small measure by the foundational work and guiding principles of the TSA, acknowledges the enduring legacy of the Association, which has remained the cornerstone of the Thadou cause and continues to be a steadfast champion of Thadou unity, rights, and progress.

On this auspicious day, TIM conveys its best wishes to all members of the TSA across its Central, Branch, Block, and Unit levels, and expresses its firm belief that the TSA will persist as a source of strength and inspiration to the Thadou people, particularly to the younger generation, in promoting peace, understanding, and solidarity among all communities in Manipur and beyond.

Long Live TSA.

5 Chin fighters killed in Junta Firing

Five Chin resistance fighters have lost their lives in two days of intense fighting against Myanmar’s Tatmadaw (SAC Junta) forces along the Kalay-Gangaw route.

On October 28, two Chin National Army (CNA) soldiers — Mr Van Za Hmung and Mr Biak Hnin Thang — were shot dead during a heavy exchange of fire with junta troops.

Earlier, on October 26, three members of the Mizo Chin Rifles (MCR)Lalbiakthuama, Lalrinthanga, and Lian Za Uk (Liantea) — were killed by bullets fired by the SAC forces in the same area.

The ongoing civil conflict in Myanmar has continued to cause severe suffering among innocent civilians. Thousands of families, including children, women, and the elderly, remain displaced, helpless, and insecure amid relentless military operations.

The Myanmar military regime continues to tighten its control with brutal force, deepening the country’s humanitarian crisis.

The international community is urged to strongly condemn these ongoing atrocities and to stand with the people of Myanmar in their struggle for freedom and justice.

Tonzang Turns into a Battlefield as Villagers Flee for Safety

Tonzang village, located in northern Chin State, Myanmar, between Tedim and Behiang near the India (Manipur) border, has become a war zone as Chinland Council (CC) fighters and the Myanmar military junta (Tatmadaw) troops move towards the area from opposite directions. Fearing for their lives, hundreds of innocent villagers have fled into nearby jungles seeking safety and shelter.

Tonzang is part of Tonzang Township, a remote, mountainous region mainly inhabited by the Zo (Chin) ethnic people, who share close cultural and linguistic ties with the Zomi and Mizo communities across the Indian border. The area has limited road access and basic facilities, making life even harder during conflicts. CDF Tonzang is based here.

Tedim, which lies south of Tonzang, is said to be a stronghold of the Zomi Revolutionary Army–Eastern Command (ZRA-EC). They are believed to be well-equipped and ever ready to strike back strongly against any attack. Their presence adds to the growing tension in the region as multiple armed groups move closer to each other.

With winter approaching and the harvest season already over, the people of Tonzang and nearby villages face great hardship. Nights are now cold, and food supplies are running low. Many families with small children and elderly people remain stranded in unsafe areas, unsure of where to run or which place is secure. Local sources told KV NEWS that heavy firing could break out at any time, leaving villagers terrified and helpless.

For years, the Myanmar junta army has carried out brutal killings, airstrikes, and attacks on innocent civilians across Chin State and other regions. Thousands of people, including women and children, have lost their lives. Such cruelty and violence must be condemned by the international community. The world cannot remain silent while the military continues its crimes against its own people.

🔥 Tatmadaw Assault Ravages Banmauk: Homes and Offices Burn Amid Renewed Clashes 🔥

GOVERNMENT offices and several civilian homes were set ablaze in Banmauk town as the Myanmar military, known as the Tatmadaw, launched fresh operations to reclaim the area from joint resistance forces of the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) and the People's Defence Force (PDF).

Eyewitnesses reported intense shelling and heavy gunfire throughout the town, forcing residents to flee for safety. Smoke and flames were seen rising from residential neighbourhoods and administrative buildings, leaving much of the area in ruins.

Banmauk, located in Sagaing Region, had been temporarily under the control of anti-junta forces before the Tatmadaw began its offensive. Local rights groups accused the junta of targeting civilian properties and using airstrikes in populated zones — actions widely condemned as war crimes by international observers.

Humanitarian groups and democracy activists have strongly criticised and condemned the Myanmar military junta for its continued brutality and disregard for human life. They called on the international community to step up pressure on the regime and support the pro-democracy movement that has been resisting military rule since the February 2021 coup.

"The Tatmadaw's scorched-earth tactics only deepen the suffering of innocent people," one activist said. "This is not an act of defence, but a campaign of terror."

The situation in Banmauk remains tense, with many civilians trapped amid the fighting and widespread destruction across the town.

Traditional Thangkhal Tau: A Watchtower for Protecting Ripening Crops

This photo shows a traditional Tau or Tautung, a simple watchtower built on a small hillock to protect the crops. Made from wooden poles, bamboo and a small roof of tarpaulin and woven mats, it stands tall above the fields. Mr. Jeffrey C. Thangkhal is sitting on the platform, keeping watch over the nearly ripe rice below. The bright blue sky and golden paddy create a peaceful village scene.

A Tau is used to guard the fields from birds, animals and rodents that come to eat the ripening grains. During harvest season, these pests become more active, so the farmers take turns sitting on the Tau. From this high point, they shout loudly or make noise to scare them away. It is a simple but effective method of protecting the year’s hard work. This photo captures an important part of traditional Thangkhal farming life, where people rely on skill, patience and community effort to keep their crops safe.

In this Tau, you will find triangular tin sheets called sok. When the wind blows, these tin sheets knock against each other and make a clattering sound. This noise helps to scare away the birds and animals.

In the old days, farmers tied a long rope, called Sok-khaau, from the Tau down to the lower part of the field (corn, maize or wheat). When someone pushed or pulled this rope, the sok would make a rattling noise, which frightened birds and other animals from the crops.

Today, some farmers use a wooden cross dressed in old clothes to look like a man or woman. This acts as a scarecrow to keep birds, rodents, and other animals away. Some even cover the cross with straw to make it look more frightening.

In short, the sok can be described as an “alarming bell” used by farmers in the Thangkhal hills.

Ni Tla Ngai Naw Zion Khawpui: Pastor Lienrum

This photo reminds us of the remarkable life of Pastor Lienrum, a humble servant of God from the Hmar community. He was born in 1898 in Senvon village, where his father, Seilienrum, served as a tribal priest. From a young age, Lienrum grew up surrounded by traditional beliefs, but his life changed completely when he accepted Christianity and received baptism under Pastor R. Dala in 1914-15. In 1922, under the guidance of Pastor Dala, he married Miss Khuonglienpui in Senvon.

After his conversion, he felt a strong calling to share the gospel with his own people. He travelled across hills, walking from village to village, teaching and encouraging the Zo tribes. One memorable event happened in Suongsang village, where he prayed for a child who was almost dead. The child was healed, and this miracle strengthened the faith of many villagers.

Pastor Lienrum was also a gifted songwriter. His songs came directly from his own life experiences and continue to inspire church members today. One of his most loved songs is “Ni Tla Ngai Naw Zion Khawpui” (“No Sun Ever Set in Zion City”), believed to have been composed in Suongsang in 1927.

It is also said that when the Chief of Suongsang village refused to allow Lienrum to enter, he spent the night under a peepal tree, which still stands today. It was under this very tree that he composed his immortal song, later translated into many Zo-kindred languages, including the Thangkhal dialect.

He finally went to his eternal home on 23 July 1980, the place where, as his song says, the sun never sets.
In April 2014, the people of Suongsang held a special gathering to seek God’s forgiveness for once outcasting Pastor Lienrum and refusing him entry when he preached the Gospel. To mark this day of reconciliation, two oxen and two pigs were slaughtered for a grand communal feast.

During the ceremony, Rev. L. Neithang, the son of Pastor Lienrum, prayed for the village and blessed the community with humble and heartfelt prayers. This moment became a meaningful step towards healing, unity, and reconciliation.

Suongsang village, where some of his most important memories were formed, lies in the Thanlon subdivision, now known as Pherzawl district.

Traditional Thangkhal Rice Grinding Method: Ansuh

In the photo, Mr Jeffrey C. Thangkhal is grinding rice in Sum, an old wooden platform traditionally used by the Thangkhals. He holds a long wooden pole called Suk, lifting it high and striking it down to crush the grains. This method of grinding—known as “Ansuh”—has been practised by the Thangkhal community for generations. Behind him stands a simple village house made of bamboo and tin sheets, with everyday household items placed on the porch, showing the humble lifestyle of remote villages.

This traditional way of preparing food was once the daily routine of many families. Using the Suk and Sum, they would grind rice, wheat, maize, gooseberries, and Khawngma. Today, the practice is slowly fading, found only in far-flung settlements.

“I was using these grinding tools during my teenage life as there was no rice mill,” said Mr Jeffrey C. Thangkhal, recalling the hard yet memorable times of his youth.
