FIFA World Cup 2026 | RO 32: Switzerland 2 – 0 Algeria

SWITZERLAND secured a comfortable 2-0 victory over ALGERIA in the FIFA World Cup 2026 Round of 32 at BC Place, Vancouver, on 3 July 2026. The Swiss side made the perfect start with an early goal and never looked back, producing another disciplined display to book their place in the Round of 16. Algeria fought with determination throughout the match but were unable to find a way past Switzerland's organised defence.

The breakthrough came after just ten minutes when Breel Embolo finished confidently to give Switzerland an early advantage. The goal allowed the Swiss to control possession and dictate the tempo for much of the first half, while Algeria searched for opportunities on the counter-attack. Switzerland doubled their lead immediately after the restart as Dan Ndoye found the net in the 46th minute, putting the match firmly under their control. Despite Algeria's efforts to respond, the Swiss defence remained composed and comfortably protected their clean sheet until the final whistle.

Switzerland now advance to the Round of 16 full of confidence after another impressive all-round performance. Algeria leave the tournament with disappointment but can take pride in reaching the knockout stage and competing strongly throughout the competition. Switzerland's clinical finishing and defensive discipline once again showed why they remain one of the most difficult teams to break down at the FIFA World Cup.

KNA-B Rejects SANGAI EXPRESS Infiltration Allegations

The Kuki National Army–Burma (KNA-B) has strongly denied allegations published by The Sangai Express on 2 July 2026, which claimed that the group infiltrated Indian territory and was involved in arson attacks in Kongkan Thana, Sangkalok, Choro, Namlee and Wanglee villages.

In a clarification issued by its Ministry of Information and Publicity, KNA-B stated that it has no operational presence or military activities within India and that all its operations are confined exclusively to Myanmar. The organisation described the allegations as "false, malicious and entirely unsubstantiated", arguing that there is no credible evidence linking it to the reported incidents.

The statement further criticised the newspaper for relying on anonymous sources and unverified claims, saying that such reporting falls short of responsible journalistic standards. KNA-B also rejected what it described as repeated attempts by certain groups to associate it with incidents inside India, claiming these allegations are intended to damage its reputation and increase tensions along the Indo-Myanmar border.

KNA-B urged media organisations, civil society groups and the public to avoid spreading unverified information. It reaffirmed its commitment to operating only within Myanmar while pledging to continue refuting what it called false and malicious allegations against the organisation. The statement was issued from the KNA-B Headquarters on 2 July 2026.

KWOHR Calls for Sit-In Over Lenminsang's Death (50)

 PRESS RELEASE
Churachandpur, 2nd July 2026
KWOHR Calls for Public Participation and Media Coverage
of Sit-In Protest Demanding Justice for Lenminsang Haokip

The Kuki Women Organisation for Human Rights (KWOHR) expresses its deep concern over the alleged extrajudicial killing of Mr. Lenminsang Haokip, which reportedly occurred on 16th June 2026 during a security forces operation at North Songkong Village, Churachandpur District, Manipur.

According to eyewitness accounts and information received from local residents, Mr. Lenminsang Haokip, a resident of Kolchung Village, was an unarmed civilian who was at his residence due to medical reasons and had no involvement in any armed activity. During the operation, amid reported drone bombing and mortar attacks, he allegedly came out of his house in fear and was pursued and shot at close range by security personnel despite posing no threat. It has further been alleged that his body was dressed in camouflage clothing and portrayed as that of a militant. These allegations raise serious concerns that warrant an independent, impartial, and transparent investigation.

KWOHR believes that every allegation of an unlawful killing must be investigated in accordance with the Constitution, the rule of law, and India's human rights obligations. Justice, accountability, and transparency are essential to uphold the dignity of every citizen and maintain public confidence in the justice system.

To collectively raise our voice for truth and justice, KWOHR is organizing a peaceful Sit-In Protest under the theme:

"Sit-In Protest Against the Alleged Extrajudicial Killing of Lenminsang Haokip: We Demand Justice"

Date: 3rd July 2026 (Friday)

Time: 11:00 AM onwards

Venue: Wall of Remembrance, Tuibong

KWOHR warmly invites all civil society organisations, women's organisations, student bodies, church leaders, youth organisations, human rights defenders, and all justice-loving citizens to participate in this peaceful democratic protest.

We also extend a special invitation to all print, electronic, and digital media, journalists, photographers, and independent media professionals to cover the event and help bring public attention to the call for truth, justice, accountability, and respect for human rights.

Kuki Inpi CONDEMNS Attack on LEIKOT Village, DEMANDS Immediate ACTION

NONEY, July 2, 2026: Kuki Inpi Jiribam, Tamenglong and Noney (JTN) has strongly condemned the alleged attack on Leikot Kuki Village in Noney district, Manipur, describing it as an unprovoked act of violence against innocent civilians.

In a press release issued on Wednesday, the apex body alleged that suspected NSCN-IM militants launched the attack at around 5:00 a.m. on July 2. According to the organisation, local village volunteers attempted to defend the village using their limited resources and licensed single-barrel firearms. However, the attackers were reportedly armed with automatic weapons and mortar shells, forcing the volunteers to withdraw. The release further claimed that Leikot Kuki Village was subsequently set on fire and suffered extensive damage.

Describing the incident as a serious threat to peace and security in the region, Kuki Inpi JTN said such attacks on vulnerable villages are unacceptable and deserve strong condemnation from all sections of society. The organisation also questioned the adequacy of security arrangements in vulnerable areas of Noney district, stating that the government has a fundamental responsibility to protect civilians.

The body appealed to the Central Government, the Government of Manipur, and concerned authorities to conduct a thorough and impartial investigation, identify those responsible, ensure justice for the victims, and strengthen security measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Kuki Inpi JTN also warned that failure to address the grievances of the affected people and bring the perpetrators to justice could further worsen the prevailing situation. It reaffirmed its solidarity with the residents of Leikot Kuki Village and pledged its continued commitment to safeguarding the rights, security, and dignity of the Kuki people.
