Neglected Churachandpur Post Office Quarters Rot in Silence
LOCATED in Tuibuang, a locality within Churachandpur district, just a short distance from All India Radio Station Churachandpur and the SP Office, the Churachandpur Post Office stands freshly painted and functional, welcoming dozens of people daily. However, behind this maintained façade lies a story of sheer neglect --- the postal staff quarters right next to it have been left to rot beyond recognition.
The quarters, once meant to house hardworking postal employees, now stand as a crumbling skeleton of brick and plaster. Walls are severely cracked and peeling, exposing bare bricks. Large sections of cement have fallen away, and dangerous protrusions of corroded concrete hang over broken window frames. Unkempt vegetation grows wildly around and within the compound, further testifying to years of abandonment.
From the photos, it is evident that the structure has suffered prolonged neglect:
Severe structural decay: The building’s balconies, edges, and support beams are visibly crumbling, posing a collapse hazard.
Broken windows and fixtures: Glass panes are shattered or missing; wooden frames are rotting away.
Peeling plaster and exposed brick: The lack of maintenance has left the building vulnerable to rain damage and further erosion.
Compound wall deterioration: Even the surrounding brick wall is falling apart, with chunks missing and cement eroded.
This is not just an eyesore --- it is a dangerous site in the heart of a public area frequented by the community. The fact that the main post office is well-kept makes the dilapidation of the quarters even more striking.
The people of Churachandpur deserve better ---- not a monument to government apathy in the middle of their community.
