KSOB participated in the interaction program held today at Jasmadevi Bhavan, organised by the Vivek Nagar Police Station.

The program was attended by officials of the police department, representatives of various associations, community and religious leaders, and various stakeholders.The meeting focused on coordination, community safety, and local issues.

Following the program,the  KSOB delegates had a brief meeting with Veeresh R, Police Inspector, Vivek Nagar Police Station, and discussed future initiatives and possible areas of collaboration to address various issues and presented him our muffler. Additionally, the KSOB team also met the Vice President of the Republican Party of India (RPI) based in Bangalore .

IGAR (South) Meets Zomi Council & CVDF for Peace in Lamka

Lamka, Feb 27, 2026: The IGAR (South), Maj Gen Gaurav Sharma SC SM met the delegation of Zomi Council (6) and CVDF(3) on February 26 evening on his maiden visit to Lamka town. He has recently assumed command of the post on transfer from the Army. He was briefed about the Zomis and their current standing in local and regional political affairs.

Both sides shared  views pertaining to law and order situation and the need for more coordination. The importance of timely intervention to prevent any escalation of violence was also emphasized.

CNO/ CNDF Statement on the CNA-ZRA Conflict

IN LIGHT of the ongoing clashes between the Chin National Army (CNA) and the Zomi Revolutionary Army (ZRA), the leadership of the Chin National Organization (CNO) and Chin National Defense Force (CNDF) has expressed concerns over the CNA's actions. 

CNO/ CNDF leaders stated that since the battlefield is primarily in Zomi-inhabited areas, it is evident that CNA is the aggressor in this conflict. They also pointed out that CNA has caused disturbances in Mara areas and Matupi, further escalating tensions. 

They emphasized that local governance should be respected—people from Tedim should control Tedim Township, people from Falam should control Falam Township, and Hakha-based forces (CNA) should focus on Hakha Township rather than trying to exert control over other regions. 

CNO/ CNDF urges restraint and respect for territorial boundaries to prevent further bloodshed and ensure stability in Chin State.

Manipur Government and Joint Action Committee; MoU 2017

 Memorandum of Understanding signed between Government of Manipur and Joint Action Committee against Anti Tribal Bills, Churachandpur on 10th May 2017:

The State Government honours the sentiments of the Tribal people of Manipur. After detailed discussion, the following understanding has been reached between Government of Manipur and JAC, Churachandpur:-

1. The Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India vide letter No.17/44/2015-Judl. & PP dated 11th May, 2016 conveyed to the State Government that the President of India withheld the “Protection of Manipur People Bill, 2015”. In respect of other two Bills, namely, “The Manipur Land Revenue and Land Reforms (7th Amendment) Bill, 2015” and “Manipur Shops and Establishments (2nd Amendment) Bill, 2015” are pending with Government of India and any future course of action will be in consultation with stakeholders. In future, any new bill which affects the interest of indigenous tribal people, the state government will follow due procedure as laid down in the Constitution of India and relevant rules in consultation with all stakeholders.

2. The State Government acknowledges the demands of the JACAATB regarding the administration of the indigenous tribal people of Manipur, and shall extend all possible help and cooperation in the tripartite talk with SOO groups where various other issues and interests of indigenous tribal people of Manipur will be protected.

3. To provide ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakh and permanent employment to next of kin of dead persons on or before 25th May, 2017.

4. To provide compensation of Rs. 50,000 to injured persons (48 persons) on or before 25th May, 2017.

5. To provide employment to 8 disabled persons in the incident along with compensation of Rs. 2 lakhs each on or before 25th May, 2017.

6. State Government will provide financial assistance for establishment of Memorial Park at Lamka and a Memorial Hall at Singngat.

7. The State Government acknowledges the demand for creation of a new district by the JACAATB for administrative convenience and better delivery of services to the people. This matter will be considered by the State Cabinet on submission of report by District Boundary Commission.

8. State government shall ensure proper investigation on the incident of police firing and subsequent death of civilians and take up action as per law.

9. It is also agreed to perform honourable burial of eight dead bodies by JACAATB on or before 25th May, 2017.

Zomi Council Seeks Justice for Vungzagin Valte

Lamka, Feb 26, 2026: The Zomi Council Headquarters, Lamka, has submitted a memorandum to the Hon'ble Union Home Minister, Government of India, expressing deep anger and concern over the continued delay in delivering justice to late Pu Vungzagin Valte, MLA from 56-Thanlon Assembly Constituency.

In the memorandum dated 25 February 2026, the Zomi Council strongly condemned what it described as the continued failure of the Central Government to ensure justice nearly three years after the brutal attack on Pu Vungzagin Valte in Imphal on May 4, 2023.

Pu Vungzagin Valte, a senior tribal legislator and respected voice of the Zo people, was attacked by a mob allegedly led by members of Arambai Tenggol while returning from the Chief Minister's bungalow in Imphal during the outbreak of ethnic violence. The attack took place in the heart of the state capital.

The Council stated that despite the passage of nearly three years, there has been no visible time-bound prosecution, no decisive accountability, and no clear direction toward justice. 

It said the delay reflects not only political neglect but also deeper structural issues, including what it described as the systematic marginalisation and vulnerability of the Zo and other hill tribes under a Meitei-dominated state system in Manipur.

The memorandum also raised constitutional concerns, referring to Article 355 of the Constitution of India, which places a duty upon the Union Government to protect states against internal disturbances and ensure governance according to constitutional provisions. The Zomi Council termed the continued delay in securing justice as a grave failure of responsibility.

While stressing that criminal accountability is essential, the Council stated that justice for Pu Vungzagin Valte cannot be limited to prosecution alone. 

It argued that the root causes of the violence lie in long-standing political grievances and structural imbalances.

 According to the memorandum, a meaningful political settlement ensuring dignified political autonomy for the Zo hill tribes is necessary for lasting peace.

The Zomi Council made two key demands:

A time-bound engagement by the Government of India to address and fulfil the political aspirations of the Zo hill tribes through concrete constitutional and administrative measures ensuring genuine political autonomy and security.

Speeding up the ongoing CBI enquiry into the attack case (RC 5/2023). 

The Council expressed concern over unanswered questions surrounding the incident, including the death of Pu Valte's driver, Mr. Thangboi, who succumbed to injuries on the same day. It demanded that the case be pursued impartially and that all those responsible be booked in a time-bound manner.

The memorandum concluded by stating that "justice delayed is justice denied," adding that justice denied to Pu Vungzagin Valte is justice denied to the Zo people. It reiterated that without an honourable political settlement guaranteeing dignified autonomy for the Zo hill tribes, lasting peace cannot be achieved.

The memorandum was signed by Zomi Council Chairman Vumsuan Naulak and General Secretary Pauneihlal.

Mizoram: 🌿 87 Years Young: Cleanliness Knows No Age 🌿

At 87 years old, Pi Vanziki of Bazar Veng, Lunglei, Mizoram, still rises early every morning with a broom in her hand. She sweeps not only the front yard of her home but even the opposite side of the public road.

She is the wife of the late Dr. Hranghrima (Dr Lip). Quietly and faithfully, she serves her neighbourhood—without wages, without applause, and without complaint.

Her actions speak louder than any speech.

Her discipline shines brighter than recognition.

The undersigned Scheduled Tribes (ST) of the thirteen tribal village chiefs of Jiribam District, Manipur, unanimously declare the consent of our people and ourselves that we desire to be amalgamated to Pherzawl District, Manipur, and come under the full jurisdiction of Pherzawl District with immediate effect.

Since time immemorial, our areas have been part and parcel of the existing Pherzawl District and we do not want to be administered under Jiribam District.

The sketch map highlighting the tribal areas to be included within Pherzawl District is attached.

It is submitted that the Government may please take necessary action at the earliest to implement our request.

The All Naga Students' Association, Manipur (ANSAM), strongly disagree and records its most vehement and categorical repudiation of the recent pronouncement by the Meetei Erol Eyek Loinasillol Apunba Lup (MEELAL) mandating the compulsory inscription of vehicle registration numbers in Meetei Mayek script across the State.

This directive is an egregious imposition — illogical in reasoning, constitutionally infirm in substance, and democratically indefensible in principle. It constitutes not cultural renaissance but coercive particularism. In a constitutional polity governed by the supremacy of law, no organisation may arrogate unto itself the authority to enforce the linguistic emblem of one community upon the entirety of a plural and heterogeneous society.

Manipur is an intricate civilisational mosaic, inhabited by numerous indigenous communities, each endowed with its own venerable linguistic heritage and cultural sovereignty. The imposition of a singular script upon all communities is a direct affront to identity, dignity, and the constitutional guarantees safeguarding equality and cultural freedom. Such unilateral insistence subverts the federal spirit and corrodes the delicate equilibrium upon which democratic coexistence rests.

The State remains in a condition of acute fragility, having endured manifold unwanted and grievous incidents rooted in perceptions of cultural domination. To resurrect and rigidly advance this contentious mandate at so precarious a juncture is profoundly injudicious. It portends misunderstanding, exacerbates communal fissures, and imperils the already fragile peace process amidst prevailing turmoil.

ANSAM unequivocally declares that it shall not acquiesce to any illogical or unconstitutional demand emanating from any organisation or community that infringes upon the inalienable rights and collective identity of the Nagas and the tribal populace as a whole. Cultural affirmation must never metastasise into hegemonic imposition. Should any deleterious or dire consequences arise from this obdurate insistence, MEELAL must bear the moral and civic responsibility for the ramifications of its unilateral action.

The Association therefore urges the Government of Manipur, in the gravest possible terms, to intervene forthwith, restrain such unconstitutional impositions, and uphold the constitutional covenant of justice, plurality, and coequal citizenship before the situation deteriorates further.
