DILLI  KI  AWAAZ PEOPLE’S MANIFESTO 2025

"DILLI  KI  AWAAZ PEOPLE'S MANIFESTO 2025" : TOWARDS AN INCLUSIVE, SUSTAINABLE, AND RESILIENT FUTURE!
Released at a Press Conference in the Press Club of India, New Delhi.
----------------------
This reflects the aspirations of those often excluded from policymaking, including working-class communities, informal workers, youth, women, children, LGBTQIA++ individuals, and climate activists. It addresses critical issues like affordable housing, sustainable infrastructure and environmental challenges such as air pollution, climate crisis, extreme heat, water scarcity and urban flooding. The manifesto prioritizes livelihoods for informal workers, housing, transport, waste management, and universal access to clean water, sanitation, healthcare, and education. We are in the process of giving this manifesto document to all political parties contesting elections in Delhi," stated Soumya Dutta, a senior member of the National Alliance of People's Movement.

"Air pollution in Delhi is at crisis levels, causing respiratory diseases, heart conditions, and premature deaths, especially among children, the elderly, and vulnerable communities. The People's Manifesto 2025 calls for a transition to cleaner fuels, phasing out private diesel vehicles, ending diesel subsidies, imposing a moratorium on new waste-to-energy plants and phasing out existing waste incineration plants in a time-bound manner due to their high toxic emissions," said Neelam Ahluwalia, People for Aravallis group.

"For effective waste management, the manifesto calls for enforcing Solid Waste Management Rules, 2016 focusing on decentralized segregation, collection, and processing of waste. It also advocates establishing ward-level recycling centres managed by waste picker cooperatives, recognizing informal waste workers with ID cards, safety equipment, and health checks," stated Azim, a waste picker associated with Delhi Round Table and Lokadhikar.

"To safeguard incomes of marginalized workers during heatwaves, pollution days, and climate disasters, the manifesto demands compensation plans for lost workdays, mapping of high-risk work areas, and integrating heatwave action plans with health and medical systems," said Aravind Unni, urban researcher and practitioner.

The People's Manifesto 2025 also calls for halting forced evictions and prioritizing in-situ rehabilitation with secure tenure and freehold rights for slum residents.
"A ward-wise census of the homeless is essential to address vulnerabilities based on age, gender, disability, and family status," stated Meenakshi of Humse Hai Dilli.

"Central to the 'Dilli Ki Awaaz' campaign is the commitment that citizens will continue to engage with our elected leaders even after the elections in the spirit of participatory governance to ensure that Delhi's development reflects the voices of its people. At the moment there are no measures to ensure participation of youth in the city. There is not even a youth policy at the state level," said Vijay Sehrawat, Youth for Climate India.

"It is crucial to expand Delhi's bus fleet to 12,000 electric and CNG buses by 2025-26 and provide free or subsidized fares for marginalized groups, including women, children, the elderly, and persons with disabilities. The manifesto also proposes reintroducing the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system, expanding last-mile connectivity with feeder buses, shared auto-rickshaws, and bike-sharing systems, while promoting car-free zones to reduce congestion," stated Vaishali from Greenpeace India.

"Implement the Street Vendors Act, 2014, by completing the partial and incomplete survey to correct the certification of vending issued, ensuring designated vending zones, fair representation in Town Vending Committees, and protection from harassment. Provide shaded kiosks, sanitation and secure storage facilities. Offer financial assistance, training in hygiene and digital payments, and partnerships for broader market access. Strengthen grievance redressal mechanisms and support women entrepreneurs with dedicated spaces," mentioned Anil Bakshi, Street Vendors Leader.

"Grant legal recognition to domestic workers, ensure minimum wages and extend social security benefits like health insurance and pensions. Establish formal agreements for accountability, helplines for redressal and skill development programs. Promote union formation and subsidized childcare facilities. Conduct inspections to improve working conditions and provide affordable housing options," stated Jaya, Delhi Gharelu Kamgar Sanghtan (DKGS).

"Recognize gig workers as formal laborers with defined rights. Ensure minimum wages, transparent algorithms and social security benefits. Develop grievance mechanisms and access to financial services. Provide mental health support, training for skill diversification, and promote collective bargaining. Introduce portable benefits to enhance stability and fair treatment," said Md Mukhtar Alam, Gig Workers Association (GIGWA).

"Improve Delhi's green cover by planting native and locally useful species to replace exotic invasive species like 'Vilayati kikar' etc, which have spread all across, create urban forests in underserved areas to improve biodiversity and reduce urban heat build-up, restore and protect all forests, wetlands, lakes, and water bodies to enhance natural ecosystems, reduce flooding and promote groundwater recharge and declare the Yamuna floodplain as a no-development zone," stated Tannuja Chauhan from Save Dwarka Forest group.

The People's Manifesto 2025 is a collective vision for a more inclusive, sustainable, and equitable Delhi, capturing the aspirations of diverse communities. Framed as both a blueprint for policy change and a call to action, the manifesto underscored the necessity of collaboration among citizens, policymakers, and stakeholders to transform Delhi into a more just and equitable city.

Inter-Sem Football: Suvidya College v/s UTC

THE MATCH featured theological students
-- FUTURE PASTORS and future FATHERS --
competing in an exciting showdown!

UTC PLAYERS
The match kicked off promptly at 9:30 a.m. at the Dharmaram Vidya Kshetram football ground on 18 January 2025.

The 11-member team from Suvidya College (MSFS) was led by their captain, Edwin (Jersey 5), who hails from the Khasi tribe of Meghalaya. Among the starting eleven players, 9 are from the northeastern states, as noted by Bosco Suanlamthang from Lamka, who is currently pursuing a BA in Philosophy. These young athletes are energetic, fast, and precise in their shots, making for an exciting match. Despite their best efforts, neither side scored during regular time.

with Suvidya College Players

In extra time, as the match neared its end, a brief opportunity emerged inside UTC's penalty box. Suvidya's Ashish, a first-year student from Odisha, seized the moment and scored a brilliant goal, leading his team to victory.

These dynamic footballers are not only skilled athletes but also future priests in training. They are enrolled in a 3-year BA (Philosophy) program and will soon be ordained as fathers, dedicating their lives to service in various ministries.

As impressive as they are on the field, we believe these young men will equally excel in serving God in their ministries.

Some of the UTC players are already ordained pastors, while others are set to receive their ordination soon. Some may pursue careers in teaching, missionary work, or other fields of service.

We wish both teams a joyous and blessed journey ahead!

About:

SUVIDYA COLLEGE, also known as the Fransalian Institute of Philosophy and Social Sciences, was founded in 1984 to fulfill a longstanding vision. The Congregation of the Missionaries of St. Francis de Sales (MSFS), which had been active in India since 1845, sought to establish a formation institute that would provide its young members with a religious education that was both thoroughly Christian and distinctly Indian. Recognizing the growing presence of MSFS in India, there was a need for a dedicated institute to cater to their educational and formation requirements.

Suvidya College began as a Philosophate in 1984, and in 1992, it became a common concern of the entire MSFS Congregation, with its administration entrusted to Indian Provincials. In 1996, Suvidya College was granted affiliation to the Pontifical University of Urbaniana in Rome, further solidifying its academic standing. In 2008, it entered into an agreement with DeSales University, Center Valley, PA, USA, for its B.Ph./B.A. Philosophy program.

Primarily serving MSFS provinces, the College also welcomes students from other religious congregations. Suvidya College aims to nurture intellectual and philosophical growth, offering a curriculum designed to foster a well-rounded and solid intellectual formation.

Suvidya College's motto, Vidyaya Amritam Ashnute, is derived from the Isa Upanishad. Knowledge and ignorance: he who knows the two together crosses death through ignorance And attains life eternal through knowledge(V.ll). Vidya is awareness of unity. Through the knowledge of unity one attains immortality.

The UNITED THEOLOGICAL COLLEGE (UTC) was founded in 1910 in Bengaluru as a pioneering institution for ecumenical theological education in India. It was initiated by missionaries and church leaders from various denominations, including Anglican, Methodist, and Presbyterian traditions, to train clergy and laity for ministry in a united and collaborative spirit. The college emphasized academic excellence and interdenominational unity, reflecting its vision of promoting Christian witness in a diverse cultural context. UTC became a prominent centre for theological studies, contributing significantly to the theological discourse in India. Its motto is “Not to be served, but to serve”.

Kuki-Zo Council met MHA official in New Delhi

New Delhi, 17 January 2025: Today, for the first time, the Kuki-Zo Council (KZC), which is the apex body and the political platform of the Kuki-Zo, met the officials of the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) at the Ashoka Hotel in New Delhi.

AK Mishra, interlocutor, and Rajesh Kamble, Jt. Director of IB NE, represent the MHA, and from the Kuki-Zo Council side, Pu Henlianthang Thanglet, Chairman KZC; Pu Ajang Khongsai, Coordinator Governing Body KZC; Pu Richard Hmar, Finance Secretary KZC; and Pu Ginza Vualzong, Spokesperson KZC were the delegates.

As it was the maiden meeting with the Govt of India, the delegates of the Kuki-Zo Council introduced KZC to the MHA officials in terms of what KZC is about, its constituent bodies, activities, and demands.

The KZC delegates emphasize the need for quick political dialogue for a solution in Manipur. It urges the government to initiate political talks as soon as possible. They also assert that the Kuki-Zo Council demand is in tandem with the demand submitted by the KNO/UPF for a Union Territory under Article 239A of the Indian Constitution.

The MHA official insists on peace before a solution. The KZC delegates retort that cessation of violence has to be done from both sides, and the government needs to urge the Meitei community to restrain from attacking the Kuki-Zo. The MHA and KZC officials discuss different matters over 1 and a half hours.

MYANMAR Military JUNTA Bombs KHAMPAT, Destroys Over 20 HOUSES

KHAMPAT, MYANMAR – On January 16, 2025, around 8:30 PM, Myanmar military aircraft carried out an airstrike on Khampat Zo veng, destroying more than 20 houses. Fortunately, no casualties or injuries have been reported.

Khampat, situated along the Tamu-Mandalay highway, is a key strategic military station that was recently taken over by the People’s Defense Force (PDF). In an effort to reclaim the area, the junta launched the aerial attack, according to local sources.

A local Zo woman from Khampat, speaking to KV News, described the terrifying moment: “We were inside the house with my parents, discussing the ongoing turmoil, when we suddenly heard the roar of an aircraft. Almost immediately, a powerful explosion shook the area, and we could hear the sound of tin roofs shattering. We were terrified and didn’t know what to do — we just took cover under our bed.”

The attack has intensified fear among residents as tensions continue to escalate in the region.

Acting President Min Aung Hlaing, the head of the military and prime minister since 2021, is widely regarded as one of the cruelest rulers in history.

KV News has witnessed rampant human rights violations, with the junta’s indiscriminate killing of innocent civilians and bombings being completely against humanity.

The International Court of Justice must take urgent action to prevent further loss of innocent lives in Myanmar.
