Kuki-Zo Children: Empowering the Students for a Better Tomorrow

Under the care of Rev. Fr. Vivian Richards (Parish Priest, St Jude Thaddeus Church, Bengaluru), around 70-80 children and students from my hometown, who are among the internally displaced persons (IDPs) from Manipur, are pursuing their studies here. We had a meaningful discussion about their future education and career prospects on Sunday, 16 March 2025. Fr. Vivian gave a positive assurance that each student would have the opportunity to continue their studies according to their aspirations. I also suggested exploring job-oriented skill courses to equip them with practical skills for better career opportunities.

Lent: A Season of Reflection and Renewal

LENT is a significant period in the Christian calendar, observed as a time of spiritual preparation leading up to Easter. It lasts for forty days, beginning on Ash Wednesday (5 March 2025) and ending on Holy Saturday (19 April 2025), not counting Sundays. The forty days symbolize Jesus’ fasting in the wilderness, where He was tempted by the devil (Matthew 4:1-2, NRSV): “Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. He fasted forty days and forty nights, and afterwards he was famished.”

Lent is traditionally marked by fasting, prayer, and repentance. Fasting is a way of drawing closer to God by setting aside physical comforts, following Jesus’ teaching in Matthew 6:16-18 (NRSV): “And whenever you fast, do not look dismal, like the hypocrites, for they disfigure their faces to show others that they are fasting. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward. But when you fast, put oil on your head and wash your face, so that your fasting may be seen not by others but by your Father who is in secret, and your Father who sees in secret will reward you.”

Prayer is central during Lent, as believers seek to strengthen their relationship with God. Jesus taught His disciples about prayer in Matthew 6:6 (NRSV): “But whenever you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret, and your Father who sees in secret will reward you.”

Repentance is another key aspect of Lent. Christians use this time to reflect on their lives, turn away from sin, and seek God’s forgiveness. Joel 2:12-13 (NRSV) calls for heartfelt repentance: “Yet even now, says the Lord, return to me with all your heart, with fasting, with weeping, and with mourning; rend your hearts and not your clothing. Return to the Lord, your God, for he is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love.”

Lent ultimately prepares Christians for the celebration of Jesus’ resurrection on Easter Sunday. It reminds believers of Christ’s sacrifice on the cross and His victory over sin and death. Romans 6:4 (NRSV) declares: “Therefore we have been buried with him by baptism into death, so that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, so we too might walk in newness of life.”

Through fasting, prayer, and repentance, Lent becomes a season of renewal, helping Christians grow deeper in faith and devotion to God. Have a BLESSED SUNDAY!

Kandhamal's 7 INNOCENTS reduced to SIX on March 15 ~ Anto Akkara

WITH deep sorrow, I share that Munda Badamajhi - illiterate and mentally challenged among Kandhamal's 7 Innocents' passed away early this morning as a 'CONVICTED MURDERER'.

Though the seven INNOCENTS were released on bail from the Supreme Court in 2019 after 11 years behind bars, the Odisha High Court is STILL sitting on their appeal in the 12th year… What a shame for the judiciary?

I would kindly request those who are unfamiliar with the Kandhamal bloodshed of 2008 & Travesty of Justice to watch the documentary 'INNOCENTS IMPRISONED' to comprehend also the stunning  conspiracy at www.release7innocents.com in English, Hindi, Odia or Malayalam.

The full text from my investigative book Who Killed Swami Lakshmanananda? about Munda Badamajhi is here. I  met Munda last on February 7. 2025 in Kandhamal and was worried about him as he had suffered stroke and could not even smile.

During the launch of the online campaign www.release 7innocents.com on March 3, 2016 with the illiterate wives of the seven at the Constitution Club in New Delhi, Patriarch of Indian journalism Kuldip Nayar asked me: What is wrong with the nation? Mentally challenged Munda’s death as a ‘convicted murderer’ reinforces that question.

By:- Anto Akkara, award-winning journalist

Dumb’ man among seven convicts

Take the case of Munda Badamajhi, 34, who was picked up by the police in his sleep from his house in the night on October 4, 2008 from Duringpodi village under Madaguda panchayat. Bandigudali, his wife, did not shy away from revealing the true character of her beloved from the same village – when I met her at her house in October 2015.

“He would never go outside the village even for buying his own clothes as he could not distinguish between different denominations of notes. I had to buy lungi for him. He had to depend on others for everything,” an illiterate like Munda, Bandigudali said candidly.

Munda Badamajhi & the Journalist.

“He cannot communicate properly. He would not even mix with other village people due to lack of self-confidence or join them for a drinking session. He works in the field, eats and sleeps at home - like an animal. He is like a dumb man,” she confided stopping short of describing her husband an ‘idiot’.

Yet, the judge who convicted the seven accused declared that the prosecutor had argued the case ‘meticulously’  and produced the ‘reliable witnesses’ to prove the charge of murder against the accused.

“It was around midnight when the police came and pushed open the door. They woke him up and tried to take him away. He asked them ‘why are you taking me away?’ They did not reply. I wanted to give him a shawl. But the police did not allow me,” Bandigudali recounted the arrest of her husband. They told her: “We will give him.”

As the police left, she noticed that they had landed up in the village in three vehicles with over two dozen personnel, including women constables.

After three months, Bandigudali came to know that her husband was in Balliguda jail. Together with Badusi, the wife of Sanatan Badamajhi, Bandigudali went to meet him in jail.

Munda told her hat he was ‘tortured badly’ during the detention and that they had even taken him to a ‘distant jail’.

While reiterating that Munda had been at home on August 23 night when he is alleged to have been in the mob of 25-30 people who carried out the murder at the Ashram, Bandigudali is baffled by the prosecution claim that a muzzle-loading gun had been recovered from their house.“We never had a gun and my husband did not know how to handle a gun. This is shocking,” asserted Bandigudali. Further, she pointed out that no police personnel or investigator had ever visited her house to verify such an allegation after the midnight raid.

Yet, the judgment that found the seven accused guilty and convicted them to life imprisonment pointed out: “His (Investigating Officer S K Patnaik’s) evidence with regard to seizure of the muzzle-loading guns from the house of Duryodhan Sanamajhi, Munda Badamajhi and a gun from the house of Sanatan Badamajhi clearly implicate the above accused persons.”

The judge also dismissed the submission of the defence lawyer that “the investigating officer has manufactured the case in order to rope in the accused persons and this court in absence of any corroboration from independent source should not rely upon his evidence. He has shown the seizure of guns at the house of Duryodhan Sanamajhi, Munda Badamajhi and shirt at the house of Sanatan Badamajhi and had attempted to implicate them for some ulterior motive."

Kindly spare 16 minutes to WATCH  this documentary that exposes what is wrong with Indian democracy and why Kandhamal bloodshed happened & why the 7 Innocent Christians were imprionsed and kept behind bars by subverting the judicial system to perpetrate a political Fraud fooling the entire World.

ps: Got them released  after 11 years on bail from the Supreme Cout in 2019

Who is Alfred, the Manipur MP who 𝐰𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐠𝐥𝐲 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐀𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐥𝐞 𝟑𝟕𝟏𝐂 to demand a separate Budget for Manipur Hills in the Parliament? He was an MLA in the previous Manipur Assembly but was defeated in the election for the current Manipur Assembly. His MP constituency includes 8 Meitei inhabited valley assembly constituencies. It is considered that the votes of these 8 Meitei constituencies were pivotal for his win, thanks to @INCManipur for their successful campaign exploiting the crisis.

𝐀𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐥𝐞 𝟑𝟕𝟏𝐂:
👉It mandates the Manipur Assembly to create HAC consisting of hill MLAs to oversee matters related to the hill area.

👉The HAC has the power to review and recommend policies on matters affecting the hill areas, especially regarding customary laws, land, and resources.

👉The Governor of Manipur has a special responsibility to ensure the proper administration of these hill areas and must report to the President on related issues.

So it is the responsibility of the HAC to advise on policies and audit if the Manipur government is functioning as per their recommendations, if not they can bring the matter to the president via the governor.

👉 Section (5) of 371C explicitly stated that the HAC shall endeavour to:
1. 𝐒𝐚𝐟𝐞𝐠𝐮𝐚𝐫𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐩𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐇𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐀𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐬, particularly by promoting the 𝐚𝐜𝐜𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐝𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐩𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 of these areas.
2. 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐦𝐨𝐭𝐞 𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲 between the people of the Hill Areas and those in other parts of the state by ensuring 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐛𝐚𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐝 𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐨𝐦𝐢𝐜 𝐠𝐫𝐨𝐰𝐭𝐡, thereby contributing to the overall augmentation of the state's resources.

Thus Article 371C is to foster 𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐥𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐝𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐩𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲 within Manipur, not to divide as spuriously demanded by divisive forces like MP Alfred!

"Census of India 1951 for Manipur: Demographic of Kuki Population in Manipur 1951" ~ Dr TS Haokip, KReF

The 23 July 2022
(For Educational purpose & various Social Organisations in the state)

By:-
DR TS HAOKIP
Chairman,
Kuki Reformation Forum (KReF)

Manipur, once known as the 'Land of Jewels'  by Pandit Jawarlal Nehru (https//factly.in...) and locally termed as 'Sanaleibak' or Kangleipak surrounded by 9 (nine) hills with oval shaped valley, has been the abode of it's indigeneous people such as the Meiteis(Kathe) including Meitei- Pangals in the valley, the Kukis in the inner layer and the Manipuri Nagas at the outer portion of the so termed Outer Manipur.

According to Triveni Wakhom (epao.net), the population of Manipur in 1951 stands at 5,77,635. Out of this figure, Meitei/ Kathe population as per 1951 Census of Manipur stands at 3,77,191 with 1, 85,803 males and 1,91,388 female population respectively.

Coming to ethnic Kukis in Manipur, who are always termed as Foreigners/Migrants in the state by some ignorant groups, the underlying data of Kuki population in Manipur in the year 1951 as per Census of India 1951, Part XII, Assam, Manipur & Tripura (page 86 & 87) stands as under.

Data and list of Kuki tribes and clans and their respective populations as per 1951 is here below.

1. Sl. No. 7:  Khongzai - 6,199,
2. No. 7(a): Kom - 2,490,
3. No. 7(b): Tarao (Old Kuki) - 160,
4. No. 13: Zo/ Zou -3,062,
5. No. 14: Simte - 5,084,
6. No. 15: Rangkhol - 5,38,
7. No. 16: Anal (Old Kuki) - 3,239,
8. No.18:  Kuki - 29,405,
9. No. 19: Koilhreng (old Kuki) - 496,
10. No. 20: Paite - 10,672,
11. No.21: Purum- 43,
12. No.22: Lamhao@ Touthang- 374,

22. No.32: Chiru - 1,074,
23. No.33: Thadou- 8,284,
24. No.34: Hangseen@ Hangshing (Thado) - 08,
25. No.35: Haokip (Thado) - 2,628,
26. No.36: Keepgen@ Kipgen (Thado) - 224,
27. No.37: Lushei - 1,743,
28. No.38: Gangte- 2,496,
29. No.40: Mizo- 140,
30. No.44: Muyon (old Kuki) - 521,
____________
Total = 1,00,748
(One lakh, seven hundred & forty eight).

The above data and tabulation as per Census of India for Manipur state clearly shows the indigeneity of Kukis in the state. Mention may be made that in the year 1956 Scheduled Tribes & Scheduled Castes Modification Act 1956 Compressed all these 30 Kuki Clans, sub-clans & Tribes under 22/23 recognised tribes.

To put up in nutshell, the Meitei@ Kathe population in 1951 was 3,77,191 (Census of India 1951 for Manipur). As per 2011 General census of Manipur, the total population of Manipur is 28,55,749 and that of Meitei comes to 14/15 lakhs as of now. At this growth rate of Meitei population for 60 years, Kuki population in Manipur as of now ought be 6-7 lakhs, but it is lower than the ought to be growth rate, may be due to migration of some Kuki tribes into neighbouring states of Nagaland, Assam, Tripura, Mizoram and Myanmar.

As for instance, Rangkhol Kuki tribe whose population in 1951 in Manipur was 538  is no more in Manipur, they have migrated into Tripura and Ralte Kuki whose population was 39 in Manipur in 1951 have migrated into Mizoram, and is now, Raltes are  no more in Manipur tribe list and General Census records in the state.

Therefore, all tribes and communities in the state of Manipur must know the actual demographic of Manipur, in the past and present, thereby ushering peace & peaceful co-existence. Or else if the present hatred for Kukis continue to exist, the world will surely come to know that we cannot live together side by side, which will bring forth disintegration of the state.

KHODAWMI OPERATION 1967: "Repatriation of 1950s Displaced Indians by GoI and GoM from Burma"

With special references to, Letter No. B- R/67/DC/874-5, dated, the 6th April 1968, addressed to:

1. Shri R.K Birendra Singh, Sub-divisional Officer, Ukhrul, and

2. Shri S. Sarat Singh,
Sub-divisional Officer, Tengnoupal,

And Copy to: The Under Secretary (Rehabilitation) reminder letter No. 37/7/67-R, dated the 28th May 1968.... factual clarification is hereby made as under.

That the so termed Kuki and Naga Refugees  were not actually refugees, they are repatriated Indian citizens, who migrated into Kabo Valley (now in Burma) during 1950s  from Ukhrul & Tengnoupal districts due to Naga Militants (NNC -Tangkhul Region)'s excessive harassment of innocent and an armed kuki civilian villagers and assassination of Kuki leaders and chiefs. As per detail data found in the book entitled, "Zalengam, the Kuki Nation" (2008) page 558- 563, altogether 36  Kuki Chiefs and leaders were assassinated  and 64 Kuki Villages were uprooted from 1950 to 1980 by Manipuri Naga Militants who later came to be known as National Socialist Council of Nagalim , Issac- Muivah (NSCN-IM) on 30 April 1988.

The Govt of Burma in 1967 conducted KHODAWMI OPERATION to flush out Indian citizens from political Burma  and sent back all Indians who migrated into Burma from Manipur. This repatriation of Indian citizens from Burma was conducted with the mutual approval of Govt of India & Govt of Manipur and Govt of Burma respectively. This repatriated Indian citizens were provided reliefs by the Govt of India through Govt of Manipur vide D.C. No. B-R/DC/1314- 6, 6 June 1968. Original Kuki settlers of  Kabo Valley were made to stay back in Burma by the Burmese Govt. It is also to note that there were also Naga Indian citizens who were among the repatriated refugees in 1967.

There are so many Kuki Villages in Kabo Valley, a one time British Indian- Manipur territory and many Tangkhul Naga villages in Somra Tract of Burma, where the Tangkhuls originated. One should not forget that ethnic Kukis@ Kuki-Chins' ancestral land (G.A Grierson 1904)  stretched from:
NORTH -:Naga Hills,
SOUTH - Sandoway of Burma, including Chinhills,
EAST - Myittha River,
WEST - Bay of Bengal.

The Encyclopedia Britannica (1962) Vol. 13, 511 also recorded the Kukis as inhabiting both sides of mountains dividing Assam and Bengal from Burma including present day Manipur Hills. The British demarcation of Kuki-Chin territory into three independent countries of India (1947), Burma (1948) and Bangladesh (1972) rendered Kukis divided into three International boundaries. It is undeniable fact that
Kuki-Chins are indigenous people of India, Burma and Bangladesh respectively.

It is also imperative to note that there are about 1.5 lakh Kuki populations in the present Manipur state in 1951, before Manipur statehood in 1972, as Haokip, Kipgen, khongjai/ Khongsai, Touthang, Suhte, Paite, Simte, Gangte, Zou etc. etc.. (Census of India 1951 for Manipur).

KABAW VALLEY IS INSIDE KUKI HILLS?      - DR. DIGENE MANDALEEY

Kuki Independence Hills and Historical Territories:
The Kuki-Chin people historically inhabited vast regions spanning across multiple modern-day countries, including parts of Northeastern India, Myanmar (Burma), and Bangladesh. These areas include the Kuki Independence Hills, which stretch across parts of Manipur, Nagaland, Mizoram, and the Chittagong Hill Tracts. The Kukis' ancestral lands were never confined solely to the Meitei-dominated valley of Manipur but spread across a larger area that included the Kabaw Valley region, which is now in Myanmar.

The Kukis' presence in Kabo Valley, situated between India and Myanmar, further complicates the territorial claims of the Meitei Kingdom. Historically, Kabaw Valley, along with the surrounding areas, was home to both Kuki and Naga communities. The Kukis in particular were known to inhabit not only parts of Manipur but also Kabo Valley, which was once part of British India-Manipur territory. The Kuki people's historical ties to the region suggest that Kabaw Valley and the surrounding lands were not exclusively under Meitei control, but part of a broader, multi-ethnic Kuki-Naga territorial domain.

The Kukis and Meitei Community:
If we accept that the Kukis are an indigenous and separate ethnic group, distinct from the Meitei community, the claim to Kabaw Valley becomes even more complicated. The Meitei community, traditionally the dominant group in the valley of Manipur, has a long history of cultural and political dominance within the region. However, the Kukis are not typically considered part of the Meitei community. While the Kukis have historically lived within the territorial boundaries of what is now the state of Manipur, they were often viewed as distinct from the Meitei, with their own language, culture, and political structures.

In this context, if we treat the Kukis as an "outside" group, separate from the Meitei community, then their historical claim to Kabaw Valley, a region with significant Kuki settlements, becomes much stronger. The Kukis' transnational presence in Kabo Valley and surrounding areas means that the valley cannot be automatically categorized as part of the Meitei Kingdom, particularly if the Kukis are not considered part of the Meitei ethnic group.

3. The Historical Transfer of Kabaw Valley:
The second article touches on the historical dispute over Kabaw Valley, where Sanajaoba claims that the valley was under Manipuri rule since 1450. However, historical accounts and the perspectives of other ethnic communities, including the Kukis, challenge this assertion. The Kukis have historically been integral to the region, particularly in Kabo Valley. If we consider the Kukis as a separate ethnic group or as outsiders to the Meitei community, the territory in question was never exclusively under Meitei control. Instead, it was part of a more complex, multi-ethnic region that included Kuki, Naga, and other communities.

Additionally, the British colonial administration in India had demarcated boundaries that divided the Kuki-Chin territories into three separate countries: India, Burma (Myanmar), and Bangladesh. This further reinforces the idea that the Kukis' historical territories, including Kabaw Valley, were never part of a singular Meitei-dominated region.

Conclusion:
If the Kukis are viewed as outsiders to the Meitei community, then Kabaw Valley, along with the surrounding Kuki Independence Hills, should not be considered part of the Meitei Kingdom. The Kukis' ancestral land stretches across multiple borders, including significant portions of what is now Myanmar, where Kabaw Valley is located. The Kukis' presence in the region, combined with their distinct cultural, ethnic, and historical identity, challenges the claim that Kabaw Valley is solely a part of the Meitei domain.

Thus, acknowledging the Kukis as an independent ethnic group with historical ties to Kabaw Valley undermines any claim that the valley was exclusively under the control of the Meitei Kingdom. If the Kukis are considered outsiders, then Kabaw Valley and its surrounding areas should be seen as part of the broader Kuki territorial domain, rather than as a Meitei possession.

SOCRATES' WIFE

Who would have expected that the philosopher Socrates, known for his wisdom, intellect, and powerful words, lived in an environment filled with shouting, ignorance, and hostility from his wife?

This woman was known for being domineering, sharp-tongued, strong and forcing her husband to leave home at dawn and return only after sunset every day. Yet, Socrates once said about her:

"I am indebted to this woman. Without her, I would not have learned that wisdom lies in silence and happiness in sleep."

He also said: "I have been afflicted with three calamities: language, poverty, and my wife. The first I overcame through diligence, the second through frugality, but the third - I could never overcome."

One day, while Socrates was sitting with his students, his wife began shouting and insulting him, as was her habit. However, this time, to everyone's surprise, she poured water over his head. Wiping his face in astonishment, Socrates calmly remarked: "We should have expected rain after all that thunder."

Socrates' calm demeanor & silence eventually led to his wife's death from a heart attack.

Yes, she passed away after starting yet another heated argument with Socrates. While he remained silent, at peace, and unbothered, she erupted like a volcano. The intense anger caused severe pain in her heart and shoulder, leading to her death that same night.
