Zomis celebrate Khuado Pawi 2016
The Zomi community celebrated their harvest festival, Khuado Pawi, in Vikaspuri, New Delhi, on 11 October 2016.
Dr Alana Golmei, Director of the Pannu Foundation and Founding General Secretary of the North East Support Centre and Helpline, attended the event as the chief guest. Bruce K. Thangkhal, President of the Zomi Students’ Federation, Delhi Cell, and media in-charge of NESCH, joined as the special invitee.
A large number of Zomis living in the capital came together for the festival with joy and happiness.
The event was organised by Zomi Innkuan Delhi. Zomi pastor TK Lianpu explained that Khuado Pawi is a Zomi festival celebrated after the harvest. It is a ritual and feast meant to cleanse the village and its surroundings.
In simple words, it is about driving away darkness and illness from the village and its people.
The festival is a time for gathering, sharing, and friendship after months of hard work in different places of employment.
The celebration featured cultural dances, singing, speeches and blessings. Young and old Zomis wore colourful and beautiful traditional clothing, adding charm to the event.

Dr. Alana Golmei awarded DCW Achievement Award 2016
New Delhi, March 08, 2016: Dr. Alana Golmei, General Secretary of Northeast Support Centre & Helpline (NESCH) was awarded the first annual awards "DCW Achievement Award" by Delhi Commission for Women on the occasion of International Women’s Day, 8 March 2016, in recognition of her efforts towards spearheading the cause of women.
Dr. Alana Golmei is a General Secretary of North East Support Centre & Helpline based in New Delhi which was launched in 2007 with the aim to prevent harassment, discrimination, molestation and abuses meted out to people from Northeast India living in Delhi and its NCR particularly women. Since then, she has been in the fore front in tackling the rampant problems faced by people from Northeast India in Delhi/NCR.
She has founded Pann Nu Foundation
on 18 May 2013 at the backdrop of the rising violence against women in today’s
world in the form of gender based discriminations, physical and mental abuse,
etc. The Foundation is committed to safeguard and uphold the dignity of women,
and strive against all forms of discrimination and crimes against women
irrespective of caste, class, race, religion and geographical region.
On 25 September 2014, Alana
Golmei was also honored with the prestigious ALL Grassroots Women of the Decade
Achievers Award by Assocham Ladies League for setting-up the Northeast Support
Centre and 24/7 Helpline to prevent harassment, discrimination, and abuse faced
by the people from Northeast India living in metros, particularly women.
