ZUF calls for observance of 91st Zeliangrong Solidarity Day

DIMAPUR, MARCH 31 (MExN): The Zeliangrong United Front (ZUF) has called upon the Zeliangrong people to observe the 91st Zeliangrong Solidarity Day with "full reverence" at key headquarters across Assam, Nagaland, and Manipur.

The observance marks the historic Chukthoibe/Chukthoibo/Chuksumei solemnization, which took place on April 1, 1934, at Tamenglong District Headquarters, Manipur.

According to ZUF, during this sacred event, "our forefathers performed deep secrecy rituals by sacrificing a pure black dog and cat-both without stripes." The ritual signified "purification, where many priests, elders, and leaders took an oath to forgive and forget all internal feuds and to strengthen the bond of brotherhood among the Zeliangrong people."

"It was firmly resolved that anyone who violated or abolished the oath of allegiance to Chukthoibe-Chuksumei-Chukthoibo would inevitably face the curse of the forefathers," the statement read.

Observances will take place at three key locations: Mount Bhubon/Duilumluang Provincial Headquarters in Assam, Mount Lwangdilwa/Pauna Provincial Headquarters in Nagaland, and Mount Koubru/Kandih Nah Raguang Provincial Headquarters in Manipur.

In honor of "our forefathers' commandments," ZUF has urged all Zeliangrong people "to offer morning prayers before stepping out of their homes as a symbol of unity and integrity among our people."

ZUF chairman S. Kamson stated that "the preamble of ZUF is solely aimed at safeguarding the Zeliangrong people, their land, and resources while promoting and preserving their culture and traditions."

The Front strongly warned against "the sale of land and the issuance of No Objection Certificates (NOCs) to the central or state governments, NGOs, Companies, Private Sectors, or Individuals who are not Zeliangrong origin."

ZUF also reaffirmed its opposition to "seismic projects and the Zeilad Wildlife Sanctuary in D2 and D3," emphasizing that "human settlement must take priority: 'Man is more important than animals.'"

Additionally, ZUF appealed for "the protection of fauna, flora, and rare species." It called for "an immediate halt to destructive fishing practices using electronic machines, inverters, bleaching powder, endrin and other harmful substances."

Furthermore, the Front urged people "to refrain from cutting down trees for business purposes and instead preserve dense forests for a healthier environment."

Sikkim’s first female IPS: Aparajita Rai

Meet IPS Aparajita Rai. Raised in Sikkim, Aparajita faced personal tragedy early on—losing her mother at just 8 years old. But instead of giving in to her pain, she used it as fuel to chase her dreams. Determined to bring change from within the system, she cracked the UPSC Civil Services exam twice—in 2010 and 2011—despite the odds stacked against her.

Becoming Sikkim’s first female IPS officer, she shone during her training, winning multiple top awards. As an officer, she’s played a key role in busting smuggling rackets involving drugs and gold, earning respect for her courage and integrity.

Aparajita’s journey teaches that setbacks don’t define us—our response to them does. She continues to inspire countless young minds to rise above challenges and chase their purpose.

St Francis Xavier's Cathedral Bengaluru

ST. FRANCIS XAVIER'S CATHEDRAL is the cathedral of the Roman Catholic Archdioceseof Bangalore in India. Initially, Bangalore was the seat of the diocese of Mysore from 1886 to 1940 and during this time, St. Patrick's Church in Bangalore was the cathedral of the diocese. When the diocese of Mysore was bifurcated on 13 February 1940 to form the diocese of Bangalore, St. Francis Xavier's church was chosen as its cathedral.

The first church of St. Francis Xavier was constructed in 1851 by French missionaries of the Paris Foreign Missions Society. Due to the huge increase in the catholic population, this church eventually became inadequate. Hence in 1911, the foundation stone was laid for a new church. This church was inaugurated on 26 May 1932, which would become a cathedral in 1940. Two new domes of the facade were inaugurated on its platinum jubilee in the year 2009. Bangalore archbishop Bernard Moras re-dedicated the cathedral to St. Francis Xavier. The domes had been constructed along with several other renovations. Though they were part of the original plan of the cathedral, they could not be completed due to lack of funds.

The cathedral's large compound has three schools: St. Aloysius', St. Anthony's and St. Rock's. There is also a Shrine dedicated to St. Anthony. ~ www.sfxcathedral.com

*************
St. Francis Xavier (1506–1552) was a Spanish Jesuit missionary and one of the founding members of the Society of Jesus (Jesuits). He played a key role in spreading Christianity in India, Japan, and other parts of Asia, earning him the title “Apostle of the Indies.” His missionary work in Goa left a lasting religious and cultural impact, and his incorrupt body is enshrined at the Basilica of Bom Jesus in Goa.

According to Schurhammer in Francis Xavier: His Life, His Times (Volume IV), Xavier’s dedication and tireless efforts made him one of the most influential missionaries of the 16th century.

Here are some stunning photographs showcase the timeless beauty of St. Francis Xavier's Cathedral, located on St. John's Church Road, Cleveland Town, Pulikeshi Nagar, Bengaluru, Karnataka, India.

A masterpiece of faith and architecture, this cathedral stands as a beacon of history and devotion.
