Lenlai Red lifts 1st Ccpur Women’s Football trophy

LAMKA: In celebration of the International Women’s Day, the much-awaited final match of the “1st Churachandpur Women Football Tournament 2018” was kicked off in Lamka Football Ground amidst large crowd.

Lenlai Red FC and Tuaitengphai YAU fought fiercely and skillfully for a goal soon after the start-off. However, the first half ended in a goalless draw. Both players attempted their advances in the second half, which also resulted in null.

Finally, the penalty shootout whistle blown! Fans of the two finalist teams were with fingers crossed; there was a mixed of hope and despair visibly from the faces of the gathering crowd.

In the penalty shootout, the Lenlai Red FC came out in defeating the Tuaitengphai YAU FC by 5-3 goals.

Lenlai Red took home the champion’s trophy along with a cash prize of Rs 10,000 and certificates, while the unner-up, Tuaitengphai YAU,  received Rs 5,000 and certificates. 

Kimkim of Tuaitengphai YAU bagged the Best Player award; with 8 goals at her feet, Nengthennei of Lenlai Red received the Top Scorer award; Niengthienkim of FC Zomi Colony was adjudged as the Most Promising Player; Lenlai Red goalie Tinneithem received the Best Goalkeeper award; and Nurses FC bagged the Best Discipline Team award. All the participant teams were also presented one football and certificate each as a consolation prize. From its beginning, the CCpur Women's Day Football Championship Trophy will be a rolling trophy now.

16 teams competed for the trophy. They are Rayburn High FC, Tuaitengphai YAU, Ganggam SC, Lenlai Blue, Chelsea Fans Club, Venus, Nurses FC, Symropia FC, United Chin FC, Pallai Women FC, Cool Young Girls, Lenlai Red, Women Police, FC Zomi Colony, Angel Places Rubies, WOC United FC.

Under the theme “Dare to Shine”, the 1st Churachandpur Women’s Football Tournament 2018 was held in Lamka from 2-8 March 2018.

The tournament was organised by the Action for Women and Child Advancement (AWCA) and supported by the Churachandpur District Sports Association (CDSA).

Shri Khaipao Haokip, Chairman ADCC and Shri Langkhanpau Guite, Ex-Chairman of ADCC, graced the semifinal match as the Chief Guest and Functional President, respectively, and other ADCC members also graced the match as the Guests of Honours.

The Chief Guest donated Rs 15000, and the functional president donated Rs 5000 for the upliftment of women’s football in the district.

The International Women’s Day celebration was carried out under the aegis of AWCA just before the final match began, which was humbly graced by wives of the district’s minister and MLAs as the Chief Guest and Guests of Honour.

Ms (Dr) Kimboi w/o V Hangkhanlian, Minister of Vety. Animal Husbandry and Agriculture, was the Chief Guest, who had given an inspiring speech on the event and donated Rs 30,000. The Guest of honour, Ms Thianching w/o Ginsuanhau Zou, MLA & Chairman MANEREDA too made a heart-touching speech and also donated Rs 10000. Ms Mary Tombing represented in lieu of Ms Lalneimoi w/o Vungzagin, Chairman MTDC gave an encouraging speech and donated Rs 5000.

Ms Phalhoikim w/o TN Haokip, MLA and President of MPCC, who could not physically appeared on the day but graciously donated a sum of Rs 10,000.

“These respected women were invited as guests to the event to show honour for the sacrifices they have made towards the achievements of their husbands in the electoral politics for CCpur District,” said Ms Grace Zamnu, MDC.

According to the organiser, the year 2018 is declared as the “Year of Education for Women". Nine women, who have been instrumental in educational setups, have been bestowed with the “Women’s Day Achievers Award 2018”.

As a recognition and honour of their achievements in painstakingly setting up educational institutions, this award has been given to them.

The awardees include Ms Hathoi Buansing, founder & principal of Bethany Christian College; Ms Mary Grace Niangnuam, founder & headmistress of Grace Academy; Ms Ruati and Ms Manzavung Thomte of The Dawn School; Ms Lalrinmawi of Happy Heart School; Ms R Tusing, Young Learners School; Ms Deborah Haokip of Legacy Faith (donated Rs.5000); Ms. Rita Vanlalchanhimi, Pathway; and Ms Laltluongmawi of Vision Academy.

Remarkably, an interim committee was set up as 'Women Sports Association of Churachandpur (WoSAC)' on this auspicious day.

ATSUM Shuts Down ZEO Offices in Manipur Hills Over Digitization Row

Imphal | March 9, 2018 — The All Tribal Students’ Union Manipur (ATSUM) has announced the immediate closure of all Zonal Education Offices (ZEOs) in the hill districts of Manipur, launching its first phase of protest against the state government’s alleged inaction on the issue of decentralizing the digitization of service books of Education (S) department employees.

In a press communiqué issued today, Micah Kamei, Secretary of Information & Publicity, ATSUM, expressed deep disappointment over the government’s refusal to grant an audience to discuss the matter, stating that their requests for meetings with the Education Minister were denied on both February 24 and March 8.

The crux of ATSUM’s protest lies in the decision to centralize the digitization process at the Directorate of Education (S) in Imphal, instead of allowing the process to be carried out at the respective ZEO offices in the hill districts. The student body argues that such a move would dilute the powers previously held by Drawing and Disbursing Officers (DDOs) and ZEOs, and disrupt administrative efficiency in the region.

“The directive appears to be a scheme to strip ZEOs of their existing authority,” the statement read, adding that proper governance demands that ZEO offices be equipped with the necessary infrastructure to manage and store service records locally.

While ATSUM clarified that it is not against the digitization of service books, it warned that centralizing the storage in Imphal would lead to logistical hardships for personnel from remote areas, including prolonged travel times, high financial burdens, and a weakening of the local command structure. It also criticized the move as contradictory to the state government's much-touted "Go to the Hills" campaign.

“If digitization at the district level is not currently feasible due to lack of infrastructure, the government should first upgrade those facilities before proceeding,” the union stated.

ATSUM has warned of intensifying its agitation with further forms of protest if its demand for decentralized digitization is not addressed.

Thangkhal youth receives Google Award in Singapore

A Manipuri youth Mr Ginmuanlal Khongsai @ Muanneu received the prestigious award Google Online Marketing Challenge 2017 Asia Pacific Region Winner in Singapore on 12 January 2018.

Muanneu received the award from Mrs Lorraine Twohill, Google Senior Vice President, Global Marketing at it's Asia Pacific Headquarters in Singapore.

This young lad is said to be the only one known so far to receive this prestigious award from Manipur State in the northeast India.

The movement eventually created a strong global Zo community and its aspirations to exist as one people cutting across all imposed boundaries found resonance in the Global Zomi Idol 2015.

TULSA, Oklahoma in the United States of America hosted the grand finale round of the much waited and coveted “Global Zomi Idol 2015 Contest” from 2-4 July, 2015. Marred by a few visa hiccups, the mega event otherwise made an impressive statement of unified Zomi people and its sustaining tradition in the face of westernization.

Seven popular and famous Zomi singers from all over the world — selected through contests held locally in countries with mared presence of Zomis – participated in the historic finale organised under the aegis of Zogam Artistes Association (India), Zomi Music Upliftment Society (Myanmar), and Global Zomi Inkuan (Zomi Community) USA. Traditional Summer Fieldwork Begins in Thangkhal Hills

As winter slowly came to an end, the Thangkhal people began their work at the start of summer. These activities took place in the month of March 2018, when the cold winds faded and the hills became ready for labour once again. Men and women walked together to the steep slopes early in the morning, carrying simple tools, baskets, and food for the day.

The first task was clearing the fields. Burnt tree stumps and dry branches left after winter were removed, and the soil was loosened with care. Work was done in groups along the hillside, with everyone knowing their role. Some dug the earth, while others cleared the land to prepare it for rice cultivation.

By midday, the workers gathered on the open slope to rest. Meals were shared, stories were told, and gentle laughter echoed across the hills. These moments strengthened community bonds and renewed their energy.

Life in the Thangkhal Hills is filled with smiles, hard work, and togetherness. In this beautiful land surrounded by hills, people live close to nature and to one another. Every season brings new work in the fields, but no one works alone — they work side by side, sharing laughter and simple joys.

In the photo, women rest under and upon a tree after a long day’s work. Their cheerful faces show the strength and unity of the Thangkhal community. They take pride in helping each other, whether it is farming, cooking, or caring for the young and the old.

Their way of life is peaceful and full of harmony. They may not have much in terms of wealth, but their hearts are rich with friendship, love, and understanding. The hills echo with their laughter and songs, a reminder that true happiness grows where people live in unity and peace.

No Update on ‘Found Dead’ Case of Mutey in Delhi | Sparshan Mahanta

New Delhi, Jan 02, 2018: The family of a 24-year-old Manipuri woman, Mutey (name changed), who was found dead in her rented room in Munirka, South Delhi, on November 9, 2017, is still waiting for answers. Despite repeated appeals, police have provided no updates on the case, raising concerns of negligence and delay in justice.

According to records, Mutey’s body was discovered at House No. 214, Room No. 2B, Second Floor, Munirka, and buried the next day at the Dwarka Christian Cemetery. She had been living with an Assamese man, Sparshan Mahanta, since April 2016. After her death, Mahanta allegedly went missing and remains untraceable.

The two had previously worked together in a BPO, but Mutey left her job due to poor health. Her family alleges that Mahanta neglected her medical needs and failed to provide proper care, contributing to her death. They also claim he confiscated her identity documents, educational certificates, and mobile phone.

A key witness, the house owner, stated that when Mutey was found, the ceiling fan was running and the door was locked from outside without a key. The family insists Mahanta should be interrogated, his phone numbers traced, and his movements investigated.

Police records name SI Deepchand of Vasant Vihar Police Station as the Investigating Officer. However, there has been no progress in locating Mahanta or pursuing leads, despite the family providing his mobile numbers and Facebook details indicating his employment as a Senior Tech Sales Manager at Infinity Geeks Solution.

The deceased, originally from Lamka, Manipur, came from a poor family. Her elder sister, who identified the body along with family friend Bruce K. Thangkhal (Media Incharge of North East Support Centre & Helpline, Delhi) is illiterate and survives on meagre earnings in Delhi.

The family has appealed to the Special Police Unit for North-Eastern Region (SPUNER) to intervene and ensure justice is served.

Zeliangrong FC and Hornbill FC to Clash for Tamchon Trophy on Dec 2

Hmar and Muvanlai FC Eliminate in Semi-finals

New Delhi, Nov 30, 2017 – In an intense semifinal of the 11th ONGC North-East Tamchon Football Tournament 2017, defending champions Hmar FC were defeated by Zeliangrong FC with a score of 1-0, and Muvanlai Athletics were edged out by Hornbill FC, also 1-0, at the Dr Ambedkar Stadium on Thursday evening (Nov 30).

The semifinal between Hmar FC and Zeliangrong FC proved to be a dramatic encounter. Unfortunately for Hmar, an own goal in the 23rd minute from their stopper, who inadvertently sent the ball into his own net while trying to defend, gave Zeliangrong the lead. Despite relentless efforts from Hmar to equalize, they couldn’t find the back of the net. Zeliangrong, on the other hand, did not extend their lead further. Both teams received one yellow card each during the match.

This loss adds to Hmar's two previous defeats in finals against Zeliangrong in 2008 and 2012. Zeliangrong, meanwhile, had lost to Muvanlai in last year's final.

In the second semifinal, Hornbill FC emerged victorious against Muvanlai Athletics with a 1-0 win. Hornbill's striker, Hemta, scored the only goal of the match in the 42nd minute, turning a well-placed pass into the goal. The match was highly charged with excitement and intense fan support for both teams. Muvanlai came close to scoring twice in the first half, but their shots were either blocked by the goalkeeper or hit the goalpost. Hornbill also had several attempts but couldn't convert them into goals.

As the final match approaches on December 2, Hmar FC will face Muvanlai FC for the third-place title at 2:00 PM, while Zeliangrong FC will battle Hornbill FC for the coveted Tamchon Trophy.

The winners will receive a trophy and a cash prize of Rs 5 Lakhs, while the runners-up will take home Rs 3 Lakhs. The third-place winners will earn Rs 2 Lakhs, and the quarter-finalists will each receive Rs 25,000.
