MNYO Opposes Tiger/German Road, Seeks SoO Camp Relocation

According to a press release by the Manipur Naga Youth Organisation (MNYO) issued on 14 July 2025, the organisation has strongly opposed the proposed construction of the Tiger/German Road from Motbung in Kangpokpi district to Churachandpur, calling the road’s name objectionable as it allegedly refers to Kuki terrorists or armed militants.

The MNYO urged the Government of India and other concerned authorities to reconsider the road project and its name, warning that it could deepen existing land disputes and communal tensions between the Naga and Kuki communities, particularly in the sensitive regions around Mount Koubru and the Loktak Project area.

The statement expressed concern over the fear among Naga residents due to the presence of armed Kuki militants and alleged that district authorities in Kuki-dominated areas often side with Kuki interests in land conflicts, marginalising the rights of the Naga people.

While supporting road development in principle, MNYO stated that unverified construction in disputed zones could become a “Pandora’s Box,” aggravating tensions.

The organisation also opposed the shifting of Kuki Suspension of Operation (SoO) camps into mixed or Naga-dominated areas, arguing that it threatens peace and stability. It urged the relocation of these camps strictly within Kuki regions and the removal of any SoO camps already in or near Naga zones.

MNYO called on the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Government of India to re-evaluate the location and number of SoO camps to safeguard peaceful coexistence among all communities in Manipur.

Assam Rifles Ops Nab 8 Cadres, Recover Arms in Manipur

Imphal, July 16 — The Assam Rifles, in a series of intelligence-based joint operations conducted across Manipur until 13 July 2025, apprehended eight insurgents and recovered a significant cache of warlike stores.

At T Bongmoi in Tengnoupal district, troops recovered hidden arms including 5 projectiles, 3 guns, and 2 grenades. In Thoubal, a female cadre of PREPAK (Progressive) was arrested with a mobile phone and SIM card.

In Imphal West, three cadres of KCP (PWG) were detained with eight mobile phones and incriminating documents. Separately, a KCP (Taibanganba) cadre was apprehended in Phumlou on 11 July.

In Kakching, three more insurgents were caught on 11 July—two belonging to KYKL (SOREPA) and one from PREPAK (Progressive).

Furthermore, on 12 July, security forces detected and safely destroyed seven improvised explosive devices (IEDs) near Border Pillar 75 at T Minou.

These coordinated operations underscore the Assam Rifles' unwavering commitment to ensuring peace and security in the state.

No Firing Reported in Chanung Area, Say Police

Reports have been circulating on social media alleging that farmers were fired upon in the Chanung area on 15 July 2025. However, local authorities have clarified that no such incident has been reported.

Both Yaingangpokpi Police Station and Sagolmang Police Station confirmed that no security agency, including the 4 Mahar unit deployed in and around the area, has reported any firing incident.

Officials stated that further inquiries are underway to verify the facts. Meanwhile, the public is urged not to believe or circulate unverified information, as spreading rumours may lead to unnecessary panic and confusion.

ZNU-ZO ARMY Clarifies Mission for Zo Unity

The ZNU-ZO ARMY wishes to clarify its unwavering mission: to unify the Zo people under one true identity — the Zo Nation — and not to divide them. We categorically state that we have never collaborated with the ZRA or any other groups. Our sole adversary remains the Junta.

Our purpose is to foster unity among all descendants of the Zo people, building a common future grounded in our shared heritage and identity. In this spirit, we respectfully urge individuals who have made public statements or social media posts that may be misconstrued as divisive or misleading to retract or revise them in the interest of communal harmony.

Let us focus on building bridges, not walls, and work together towards a unified and stronger future for the Zo people.

Drone Strike Hits Insurgent Camps on Indo-Myanmar Border

IN a dramatic escalation along the India-Myanmar border, Indian Special Forces reportedly carried out a high-intensity drone strike on the night of 12 July 2025, targeting multiple camps of the banned insurgent group ULFA (Independent) and its allies.

According to sources and a press release issued by the Revolutionary People's Front (RPF) dated 14 July 2025, over 150 bombs were dropped using advanced drones on four ULFA(I) camps and a joint base shared with the People’s Liberation Army (PLA).

The strike, which began around midnight and continued into the early hours of 13 July, is reported to have killed Lt. General Nayan Asom, Chairman of the Lower Council of ULFA(I), while injuring several other cadres. The RPF expressed condolences in its statement, calling Asom a “hero” who laid down his life for the cause.

The RPF condemned the operation as a form of "proxy war" and an act of aggression against what it described as the “independent” territories of Assam and Manipur. The group rejected Indian sovereignty in the region and accused the Indian government of historical manipulation and deception, labelling it the “Archenemy.”

As of now, the Indian government has not issued an official statement regarding the strike. However, defence analysts suggest the action could be part of a wider counter-insurgency strategy to dismantle rebel strongholds along the porous Indo-Myanmar border.

Northeastern India has seen rising tensions in recent months, marked by insurgent activity and renewed separatist sentiment. The Indian Army has consistently maintained that outfits such as ULFA(I) and PLA operate from sanctuaries across the Myanmar border and pose a serious security challenge.

With the situation on edge, security forces across several Northeastern states remain on high alert. Further updates are expected as ground-level assessments and official responses continue to emerge.

📣 KSOB at Youth Leadership & Human Rights Workshop📍 St. Joseph’s University

On July 12, 2025, a delegate from KSO-Bangalore participated in a workshop under the Northeast Youth Civic Engagement Initiative (NYCE), organized by White Dot Solidarity Network in collaboration with the Northeast Tibetan Students Forum (NETSF) of St. Joseph's University, with support from Restless Development India.

The workshop, titled "Youth Leadership and Human Rights for Students and Migrants," was facilitated by two powerful and engaging speakers. Participants were taken through the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) — highlighting nearly 30 key articles — and shown how these global principles align with the Fundamental Rights enshrined in the Indian Constitution. For marginalized communities, understanding and asserting these rights is not only empowering but also essential in the face of injustice.

The session also explored the significance and functions of international institutions such as the International Criminal Court (ICC) and the International Court of Justice (ICJ), offering valuable insight into global justice mechanisms and their relevance.

The second half of the program shifted focus to Youth Leadership. One core message echoed throughout: leadership begins within. A true leader is not defined by position or power, but by humility, active listening, courage, and the ability to inspire through action. The speaker left participants with a resonant quote by Brené Brown:

> "Courage is contagious. Every time we choose courage, we make everyone around us a little better and the world a little braver."

✨ Overall, the workshop was a deeply enriching and thought-provoking experience. Heartfelt thanks to the organizers and coordinators for extending an invitation to KSO-Bangalore and for hosting such an impactful event.

Without Amicable Solutions of the Three UTs in Manipur, Permanent Peace Will Remain a Dream

THE recent news that the Centre is planning to bring Kuki and Meitei leaders together for peace talks is a welcome move. However, peace talks alone will not be enough to bring lasting peace to Manipur unless the root cause of the conflict is addressed honestly and fairly. One of the most important issues that need attention is the demand for Union Territory (UT) status by the three major ethnic communities in Manipur — the Meiteis, the Kukis (especially the Kuki ), and the Nagas.

Unless these three UT demands are discussed and settled amicably, any peace deal will only be temporary. In this article, we explain why without solving the UT issue, true peace will not come to Manipur, no matter how many peace talks are held.

1. Understanding the Three UT Demands

a. Meitei UT Demand

The Meiteis are the majority ethnic group in Manipur, mostly living in the Imphal Valley. Many in this community want a separate UT or at least more central control to protect their identity, culture, and political control of the valley. They feel threatened by what they call "illegal immigration," changing demography, and loss of ancestral land.

b. Kuki  UT Demand

The Kuki  people, who mainly live in the hill districts like Churachandpur, Kangpokpi, and Tengnoupal, are demanding a separate administration or UT for their community. After the May 2023 ethnic violence, many Kukis feel unsafe and rejected in the present Manipur system. They believe a separate UT under the central government is the only way to secure their safety, dignity, and future.

c. Naga UT or Integration Demand

The Nagas, mostly in districts like Ukhrul, Senapati, and Tamenglong, have long demanded either a UT status or integration of their areas with "Greater Nagalim" — a proposed Naga homeland across Nagaland, Manipur, Assam, and Arunachal. The Naga demand is deeply emotional, rooted in history and identity.

2. Why Ignoring the UT Demands Is Dangerous

If the central government and Manipur leaders ignore these three UT demands and continue peace talks only at a surface level, they will not solve the deeper issues. The peace will only be temporary — a silence before another explosion.

People in Manipur are not just fighting with guns; they are fighting for their identity, dignity, and rights. If those are not protected or recognized equally, people will continue to feel injustice. And when people feel injustice, peace cannot stay long.

3. Past Lessons Prove This Point

Manipur has seen many rounds of peace talks before — between Nagas and the government, between armed groups and the state, and even within communities. But every time, violence returns because the real issues are not solved.

For example:

The peace talk with NSCN-IM has gone on for over 25 years, yet no final agreement.

The Kukis were never properly included in the Naga talks, causing mistrust.

The Meiteis feel that the Centre favors hill people, while the hill tribes feel dominated by the valley.

This cycle of mistrust, half-hearted talks, and repeated violence will never stop unless the UT issues are addressed.

4. What Will Happen If the Three UT Issues Are Ignored?

Violence Will Keep Coming Back: No matter how many weapons are seized or how many meetings are held, violence will return because people still feel unsafe and unheard.

Distrust Will Grow: Communities will blame each other and the government. Hate, suspicion, and division will increase. This will damage social harmony.

Economy Will Suffer: Investors, industries, and tourists won't come to a conflict zone. Manipur's economy will stay poor and backward.

Youth Will Be Misguided: When young people don't see a peaceful future, they may join armed groups or be misused by politicians.

Peace Talks Will Fail Again: Talks without truth, fairness, and political solutions are like treating a serious disease with painkillers — it won't work in the long run.

5. Why Separate UTs Can Help Bring Real Peace

Some people fear that giving UTs will divide Manipur. But sometimes, separation under the Constitution brings more peace and cooperation than forced unity. Look at Ladakh and Jammu & Kashmir — after years of violence and disputes, they were made separate UTs in 2019. Now, both regions are seeing more development and calmness.

If the Meiteis, Kukis, and Nagas get their own UTs:

Each group will feel secure in their identity and land.

No group will dominate the other.

The Centre can control law and order directly in each UT.

People can rebuild trust and even cooperate again peacefully.
E

6. Steps Toward a Peaceful UT-Based Solution

To make this work, the following steps should be taken:

a. Truthful Dialogue

Instead of forcing one Manipur model, the Centre must listen openly to all three communities without bias. Let everyone express their pain, demands, and dreams.

b. Peaceful Demarcation

The UT boundaries should be decided with fairness, based on present habitation and historical claims — not force or politics.

c. Constitutional Guarantee

Each UT should be given proper constitutional protection for its language, culture, jobs, land, and governance.

d. Inter-UT Coordination Council

Even after separation, an inter-UT council can be formed to manage roads, rivers, and trade across the region. Unity can be maintained in practical matters.

7. Conclusion: Without UT Solutions, Peace Is Not Real

The truth is simple: without solving the three UT demands of Meiteis, Kukis, and Nagas, peace in Manipur will never be real or permanent. The Centre must not delay or deny this fact any longer.

The present moment — when violence has reduced slightly and leaders are ready to talk — is a golden chance to address this issue head-on. It's time to stop pretending that "dialogue alone" will fix everything. Real dialogue must include real political solutions — and that means amicably resolving the three UT demands.

Let each community be given its space to breathe freely, live with dignity, and grow without fear. That's how we build a peaceful and just future for Manipur and all its people.

WKZIC Clarifies on Kuki Hamlet Villages in Kangpokpi

Rejoinder & Clarifications
The 13th July, 2025

With special references to the news-item under the caption, "Another 3 New Kuki Settlements Pop Up Inside Naga Village in Kangpokpi District - VA" published in the Ukhrul Times, July 9, 2025, the WKZIC hereby make the underlying clarifications below for the understanding of all concerned as under.

1. That KHOLEN VILLAGE is a hamlet village of younger Clansmen gifted on Kuki Customary Charge & Fees as per Kuki traditions from elder Clansmen SELSI VILLAGE in the year 1979 and the new village was established in the year 1980, within Selsi Village jurisdictions.

2. Likewise, the so-stated WEST HAIPI VILLAGE is also another hamlet Kuki village of younger Clansmen from elder Clansmen HAIPI VILLAGE, within the jurisdictions of Haipi Village itself.

3. Thirdly, SAIKOT/SAIKOTJANG is also another hamlet Kuki village of younger Clansmen from elder Clansmen KHOLJANG VILLAGE, as per Kuki traditions of establishing a new village by elder Clansmen for his younger Clansmen.

Look at the Google Map attached here for reference, all the stated new Kuki villages are situated between Kuki villages and not inside Kacha Naga Village as claimed by Chawangkining Kacha Naga Village.

It is therefore reminded to the Chawangkining Village Authority not to panic and raise unnecessary alarm. Unless the above-mentioned mother villages such as SELSI, HAIPI and KHOLJANG complain, there is nothing wrong or illegal. Keep in mind the Kukis are following certain unique traditions which forbid encroachment upon someone's land. Kukis, unlike Kacha Nagas, have the tradition of respecting others' land and boundaries, with the saying: "A person whoever encroaches others' land measuring up to or more than 4x6 ft. dies very soon" – which forbids Kukis to encroach somebody's land without the permission of the owner.

Looking at the Kukis always through the 'Kacha Naga Prism Perspectives of Attitude and Mindsets' panics you, which you can get rid of. Kukis and proper Nagas are big-hearted people living together peacefully as "Tribals and Christians" – unlike Kacha Nagas with wild nature, always seeking ways and means to fight with others, even in this digital era, in spite of being Christians, demeaning the sanctity of Christianity.

NIA Chargesheets 5 in Mizoram Arms Smuggling Case

New Delhi, 11 July 2025 — The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has filed a chargesheet against five individuals in connection with a major arms and ammunition seizure in Mizoram. The accused were allegedly involved in a criminal conspiracy to supply prohibited weapons to a Bangladeshi militant group.

The individuals named in the chargesheet have been identified as Lalbiakchunga alias Divid alias David, Lalthawmcheuva alias Thawma, Malsawma alias Malsawma Loncheu, Rualliansanga alias Sanga, and Alok Bikash Chakma. They have been booked under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967, the Arms Act, 1959, and the Foreigners Act, 1946.

The case was initially registered by Mizoram Police on 15 January 2025. The NIA took over the investigation in March 2025 and re-registered the case as RC-05/2025/NIA-DLI. Subsequent investigation revealed a conspiracy to deliver the arms and ammunition to cadres of the United Peoples Democratic Front (UPDF), a militant outfit operating in Chittagong, Bangladesh.

The seizure took place in Saithah village, located in Mamit district of Mizoram. The recovered cache included six AK-47 rifles, 13 magazines, and 10,050 rounds of ammunition.

The NIA has stated that investigations in the case are still ongoing.

TTC-GHQ Rebuts TIM Statement, Denounces Michael Lamjathang’s Role

Lamka, July 12, 2025 – The Thadou Tribe Council General Headquarters (TTC-GHQ) has released a strong rejoinder refuting claims made by the so-called Thadou Inpi Manipur (TIM) in a statement titled "TIM Condemns KIM's Unconstitutional Directives", published in The Sangai Express on July 8, 2025.

In its official response, issued by the Information & Publicity Wing, Thadou Tribe Council (TTC)-GHQ, the Council asserted that both TIM and the Thadou Students' Association (TSA) are defunct entities that were abolished after they were allegedly misused by Michael Lamjathang for personal and political gain. The Council accused Lamjathang of collaborating with Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh to weaponise the Thadou identity against the larger Kuki community.

The rejoinder stated that TIM and TSA have no legitimate authority to use the name "Thadou," nor do they represent the voice or will of the Thadou people. It cautioned civil society organisations, media outlets, and both the state and central governments not to be influenced by these bodies, which TTC-GHQ described as tools of vested interests.

TTC-GHQ further clarified that Michael Lamjathang's affiliation with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was a personal choice and does not carry the mandate of the Thadou community. It expressed concern over his use of the BJP platform to act and speak against the Kukis, of which the Thadou tribe is a part.

Reaffirming its position, the Council declared that TIM and TSA do not represent the collective voice of the Thadou people in any manner.
